You get used to it. Just this morning I looked a taxi driver in the eye, pointed my finger at him and told him I'm going to beat him up. The bastard was going over the red robot while I was trying to cross. It was green for me.

Nothing civil here. Hehe.

I went driving in Joburg peak traffic one morning. I don't think I've ever lived it down. Those taxis - holy shit ... my company sends a driver for me because I refuse to drive there.

Dude you are so not the only one! I never feel safe there, I can't put my finger on why, but i always just feel uncomfortable there

Yeah it's weird - even though there is about the same chance of something happening in cape town - when I think of joburg I just think of lawlessness and the wild west.

Presies! Its the electric fences around the electric fences and the pace, the rushing around, the sitting in traffic for hours and the brown from all the dust and so on, I just cant cope there - but then again I avoid cape town cbd as well

Yeah I agree with Soli, you get used to it. When I moved from Cape Town to Gauteng & Mpumalanga, I also had that constant "on the lookout" vibe going, you just don't feel as safe (for good reason I suspect).

It is strange when you go down to Cape Town or Paarl now, and you see all these houses with no security. Nevermind electric fences, they don't even have walls/fences.

I had to laught at Wyv's comment, electric fences around the electric fences. Hahahaha

The traffic in Jhb is no worse than Cape Town, I'd say. I almost never go into either's CBD, just the highways around them and it is most of the same, except the people drive faster up in Jhb than Cape Town. You'll often drive 100 or 110 in the fast lane in Cape Town, while up here you'll be doing 130 in the fast lane and moving over for someone going faster :)

Yep [MENTION=357]Murph[/MENTION] - that is why I prefer to stay clear of even the cape cbd - its just not for me, I prefer staying local as much as possible

En dai electric fences - is waar - die security complexes het 'n moerse muur buite om met electric fencing en dan elke unit het 'n muur met electric fencing

I live in Paarl and my house has a heavy duty gate at the front and because it borders a vineyard with it's own security I never bothered putting up a security fence at the back. But there a LOADS of houses with nothing.

So far so good with my place though *touch wood*
