Renting VS Owning Games

Something that caught my attention while browsing the BT games website was the option of renting games here. Now, it seems as though its a pretty good deal ie R99 per month and play up to three games at a time.

Are there any gamers here who's used the service and what are your thoughts on it, with some games costing up to R700, rental suddenly seems to be a cheaper alternative?

well if you look at it from other pp... such as myself... I wouldnt want to rent as it would cost me too much... because i work late hours most times and alot of the time dont get to play my games when i want to... so thats why i would much prefer buying my games.... coz firstly i know its there and I dont have to worry about returning it any time soon :)

Is this for PC as well? I would love to rent PC games as I normally only play them once and than they sit on my shelf collecting dust =O

Well PC games i dont think would be rented out.... i can just imagine the increase in Piracy if that were to happen... I think pp would go outta business very quickly

OH LOL, never thought of that. Fscking pirates ruining the world...

R99 for 3 games a month? I would definitely pay for that. Damn though wishlist flash thing isn't working for me and I can only think it's because I'm capped.

Syco - you pay R99 a month to have a game for the whole month ;)

Sock - it's a pretty sweet deal, I know of a few peeps on it already and loving it. When I get my box sorted out, I'm signing up too :D

I think you can borrow a game for as long as you like (longer than a month), but can only trade/get a new game up to 3 times a month.

I'm using the BT games rental system and I find it lekker as there are some games that I have rented but have ended up taking them back the next day for something better. The way it works is you pay R99 a month and you get to rent upto 3 games a month, you can only take out 1 game at a time but you can keep the game for as long as you are subscribed. If there is something you are looking for you, send them an email and they will try and locate a preplayed copy of the game and then send it through to your nearest branch. You don't need to use the wishlist on the site.

BT games rental

I used the service for over a year and it was great when we had the time to pay a lot of games e..g finish games within a month etc and get another.

How it works:

For R99 - you allowed 1 game at a time with 3 swops max within a month. However if you like the game, you can keep it for two months, 3 months etc until its finished.

For R199 - which is what I used, you were allowed 2 games out at the same time, and had unlimited swaps within a month.

In addition, if you kept your account for a year, on the anniversary date, they bumped you up to 3 games out at the same time. This only applied to the R199 per month option. This option worked well for us when we played a lot of games and also to try out games before you bought it and to just play the games you dont want to collect. I did find though, that i was keeping games i liked for up to 3 months due to time available to play and finish games and therefore i ended up cancelling my subsibscription and buy games rather (especially when sales come along). One year on the 199 option is R2400 per annum, which is a hellava load of cash if you only finish 3/4 games a year. If you play accross all platforms (as you can take out a wii and xbox game etc at the same time) and / or you play 10 or more games a year to completion, then renting makes sense.

Hope this helps.

Happi gamin :)

I also use the Btgames rental system and it works great for me. The R199 deal now allows you to take home 3 games at a time :) and if you really like a game, you have the option to purchase it from them at a pre-played price.

If you have a modded xbox 360 you can pirate those discs just as easily.;) Xbox 360 copy of maw 2 was leaked first.

But to answer question no they don't do rentals for pc games.

Personally I wouldn't use a rental service. I am a collector I need a box to add to my collection or at the minimum the ability to add it to my digital catalog on steam.

I agree with you. I like collecting my games I have all of them since my first one.

Sounds like a decent option. For me it would really depend on the Terms and Conditions. Can I rent 3 games in a month and only pay R99... but just for that one month? Or is it more of a contract based thing? I think it would certainly be a good option if its a shorter game that you can finish in that amount of time.

Think it's a good option if you have the time for it. Me, I don't always have the time for gaming every day as some days just get too busy, so for that reason I prefer buying as I can finish off a game at my own pace.
