Modern Warfare 2 Tested

Nice write up Mapy.

My experience has pretty much been the same as that which you described.

Personally, I think I actually prefer the MP gameplay in MW2 to CoD4. I only ever really played HC, so I do quite well with the new uber powered weapons :D

In terms of visuals, MW2 certainly does not push the PC. Playing on max settings I rarely drop below 120fps, which is great for those with aging machines - smart move from IW IMO. I don't think we will see graphics really being pushed until the next gen consoles arrive, until then, most games are developed with 360 and PS3 in mind, and I think they are pretty much maxed out (at least in so far as cross platform developing is concerned).

I find MW2 a lot brighter and more colorful than CoD4 was. I think a conscious decision was made to move away from the gray-scale color pallet used in CoD4, and I really like it.

I played Call of Duty 4 on PC too. And Call of Duty 2, although I don't remember if that one had lean. Of course, I wouldn't remember anyway because I never use it. :P

It's partly because I'm left-handed, of course. I use the cursors to move, and the surrounding shift, ctrl, and whatnot for crouching, jumping, and reloading. No space for stupid leans.

See i play games like a right hander, even though im left handed. Holding a mouse in my left hand just feels wrong.

apparently they updated the pc matchmaking bit. it now searches for games with 50 or higher ping, no longer 100

Lean is for people who care about dying.

I tend to Leeroy Jenkins it. :o

Me too. :D

Oh, and regarding Mappy's review, I was also telling a friend last night how MW2 seems much faster paced than MW. I'm not sure if it's the smaller maps, or if they've bumped up running speeds, or if it's the increased weapon damage, or it's a combination of all of these, but everything just feels so much faster than before.

Correct Ma'am.

It's a combination of it all, delivering a much more frantic experience :D

still i'd love to see this game with 32 players duking it out on a map. that would be INSANE!

Although not directed at me, Afghan is a map that needs more players...

Wut. I played a full team deathmatch on there last night, and it was crowded. Any more players, and it would be a joke.

I don't understand all the complaining about reduced max player counts. Have you guys not noticed that map sizes have been reduced accordingly? It's like you're looking for things to complain about. Stick with bitching about the dedicated servers - at least that means something.

Otherwise, more pew pew, less QQ.

Yeah for some reason just about every host I joined or game I hosted had afghan in the rotation first.

That's where the supply drop killed the oke, right between the broken pieces of the plane :D

I think Afghan's become a quick favourite among players. There's just something really special about it. I adore Favela as well.

I still haven't seen anyone killed by a supply crate. ;_;

The 9v9 is prefect...Even on the bigger maps its fine, I never found myself running around aimlessly.

There was always plenty of action, and come to think of it some of the maps weren't even full.

Totally agree. I've also been in private games with just four players, and most of the maps still work out.

Mappy - Any reason why it was 6v6 players and not the maximum 9v9?

Dunno hey. I have still yet to "experiment" further to get to know the system, playlists etc.

I'll be doing my own hosting from scratch this weekend to setup customized matches, we'll see how that goes.
