Ping times

Howzit, im planning to play a game off a german based server, does anyone know what the ping times will be around? Il be on a 384k line with ethernet. Your info is much appreciated! And what isp's would you consider, iv looked at afrihost and screamers so far.

your ping times will sit around 200-300ms pings depending on how fast their connection is...
 
yeah like syco said about that much ping now for FPS its useless playing if you got that high ping. What game you planning on playing?
 
Well i use to play a game called special force when i was living up in europe for a few years. This game The server is based in germany and they have great servers!! I would like to know, would there be a big difference between a 386k line and a 512 when it comes to the ping? The game is FPS. After i left some of my clan members left and formed another, they won the american and european nationals and went 2 weeks ago to play in Taiwan. Special force in Asia is the number 1 FPS game at the moment and it has been for a while. There are monthly tournaments in Korea and Japan.
Lastly, what isp would you guys recommend?

The important thing to do is to make sure you get an unshaped account, as that will lower your ping significantly. Of course, it will cost you a bit more.

Just spoke to the guys at Screamers telekoms and they said that the deal that they have which is Uncapped and unshapped at R399 a month also has no thresholds or throttling... This all sounds to true but il try them, he also said its a month to month contract so if im not happy i can quit at the end of the month. There is no setup fees or anything like that.... So, i guess if i try them i have nothing to loose... And for anyone else interested, they offer Unshapped at R23 a gig!

Well i know a friend had major problems with Screamers as his wireless was down atleast twice a week :rolleyes:
 
Wireless is quite problematic, rains, planes and all sorts of things get in the way...
im going with the modem, il try it out. They got some good deals, i mean 115 for 5 gigs at 4096kbps line!! Thats great! Does anyone know how much telkom charges to have a 4069kbps line? Just the rental that is.

This is just a video of us. in the video My friend doc is talking and you see me taking 3 players and ending up with 2Health from 2:29. The clan we played wasnt anything great, anyway i miss it. cheers and thanks for the help

Just a heads up - be wary of Screamer Telecoms, as I've heard they're experiencing some issues that are resulting in increased pings etc, making it problematic for gaming. Perhaps see if you can request a trial account or something first.
