Console only mmo: massively multiplayer online zombie game

Developer Undead Labs today announced its intent to 'create the definitive massively multiplayer online zombie game (MMOZ) for console gamers.'. Yes, console only. In their 'Rude Q&A' on the company's we site, Jeff Strain states, 'There are scores of MMOs on the PC. There are very few on the console, and exactly zero developed specifically for the console.' He adds, 'Nobody wants to see a PC MMO ported to console, with a hybridized design attempting to appeal equally to all players.'

FYI, the studio was founded by Blizzard veteran Jeff Strain, who contributed programming to both Diablo and StarCraft and, according to today's press release, formed 'the initial team and kicked off development on the wildly successful MMO World of Warcraft [in 1999] while taking on the roles of team lead and lead programmer on the project.' Come April 2000, Strain and two others had left Blizzard to co-found Guild Wars developer ArenaNet.

be curious as to how this turns out.

Wow did not see this.

Would love going mass zombie hunting with friends just need more guns those ones in l4d was so boring....

But then they might have just milked the zombie theme too far now. Wonders when we going back to the ww2 themed games haha.

Most important is the lead developer - Jeff Strain. AKA the guy who was the lead developer of World of Warcraft and Guild Wars.

Duh.... but will it only be for Xbox or PS ?

only Nintendo DS :D

from the Rude FAQ
Q: Which platform(s) will the game be developed for?

[Why is this rude? Two reasons: 1) if you say "every platform in existence!" you'll live to regret it, because resources, especially engine programmer time, are finite; and 2) unless you are a first-party developer, console publishing can require complex and sensitive business negotiations, and it's usually not a good idea to talk openly about it while they are in progress.]

A: We’ll be developing for high-end game consoles. By today’s standards, “high-end” would include Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But the market can change rapidly so we’ll have to see how things look when we are further along in development.
