Far Cry 3 confirmed

orsome orsome orsome.... and the thing is with Far Cry 2 it was well thought of and the fact that they used normal South African voices for the game and not these fake accents made it even more interesting I really enjoy it :)

awesome. NOw if only the multiplayer were a bit more fun, Farcry 2 had such good potential. Also The modding , check what they achieved with Farcry 1 and modding, they really should release an SDK

I'm busy playing Far Cry 2 at the moment. There are parts that I love. It's beautiful, it feels so African and the voices are awesome. It does get repetitive though. If they can fix that in Far Cry 3 then I look forward to playing it. :)

I hated Far Cry 2 and the sad thing is i was so psyched about it. If they remove the fast respawning enemies. The stupid repetitive side missions, let me choose which weapon i carry where. Put in better AI and Stealth mechanics, not Enemies with Super Duper Telescopic vision that can hit me from 6mils away. Then we might have a game worth playing...

Hence my call for SDK, so users could mod the game, as with FC1.

Farcry2 with an SDK would be pumping out user mods and patches in streams......

A good SDK is not an excuse for poor game design. I agree with you, i think every PC game should come with a decent SDK so players can learn and one day become game makers themselves.

I haven't played Far Cry 2 because I'm aware of the negative aspects of the game. I also don't like playing as an empty, speechless character that is really just a floating gun that moves around the game world and people talk to it. Far Cry 2 should have played like a military GTA set in Africa.

Far Cry 2 was a very... uh... far cry from the first game. Sandbox was definitely a bad idea.

Plus, the whole jungle/bush thing is tired, as I imagine the Antarctic would be. I think something along the lines of Uncharted where the player gets to travel between a variety of locales would be far more exciting than schlepping through African bush.

Meh, perhaps I'm just a jaded African.

What of interest is there to see in Antarctica, apart from lots of snow? I'd have liked to see a new setting and not Africa again.

Edit: Looks like it might not be Africa after all.
According to an inside source at Ubisoft Montreal working on the title, the next instalment of the game will be set somewhere "outside" of Africa and will take advantage of a new setting.

This news comes after Far Cry 3 was confirmed by Kevin Shortt in an interview with PlayStation Magazine, scriptwriter for Avatar and Far Cry 2.

"We're still in very early development and we have no idea where it's going to be set, but I'm pretty sure that it won't be in Africa," our source told us.

Our source also said that the team were still discussing the game's direction and that nothing had been set in stone.

Although our source said that the game won't be set in Africa, it was iterated that could be subject to change, but it was more than likely going to be set outside of Africa and somewhere completely new.

Geez Farcry1 one was so boring and predictable, like a Saturday night B-Grade action movie on SABC 1,

I hear Farcry 2 is good, cut out all the crap from the first one, I must play :D

What have you guys got against Africa? In past games its always been a Europe, America, russia, middle east or islands

Because when you play far cry 2 you really are feeling the African heat. And we have all been in the bush.

Enemies with Super Duper Telescopic vision that can hit me from 6mils away

Haha, or enemies that can flip their bakkies, roll into a ditch, get up and hit you spot on every time...
Man I hate that game.

I didn't like Far Cry 2 because of the lame way the enemies reacted when you shot them. There was almost no blood and the character models looked VERY dated with some poor ragdoll physics. Everything else looked great but the minute you shot an enemy it would scream "FAKE!"

....that and it was just plain boring.
IMO they took some second rate FPS and used the Far Cry brand to sell it.

The animals are classic though, Wildebeest hanging around in pairs that go nuts on you when you drive behind them, but don't seem to mind when enemies are driving into trees right next to them while firing from their mounted machine guns. That's cool with them.
