PC Gaming: Is it in trouble?

Start releasing quality games ffs. Cater to the PC's strengths and crowd. Leave the flashy graphics, run and gun stuff to the console kids.

Lets see some games with strong story lines, complex gameplay and characters with depth.

Oy, some of us "console kids" want games with strong story lines, complex gameplay, and characters with depth too, you know. :P

I posted a thread on games released in '96. Now that is what we need to see. 2004 was the last great year for PC gaming. Lets hope 2010 is just as good.

finally a sane man in this thread. i agree totally with you, they all kiss the pc ass when all those great games were out. Console kiddies just a bunch of backstabbing carebears :p

No, because it was an obvious joke. :/

As GReeN_ORB so uselessly pointed out, no company is going to stop producing a product because their customers are whining.

But look at you guys whining again. It's kind of funny how you guys keep accusing me of thinking I know everything just because you don't get what I'm saying. That's your problem, not mine.

The thing is, you go on about us (being pc gamers) whining the whole time, so when you mention it again, it's natural for me to assume you're being serious. Now go back into your little console hole, and let us discuss why PCs are always going to be better than consoles (can you tell if I'm joking here?)

Oh, come off it. Go through my last 100 posts - how many of them are accusing PC gamers of whining? You just notice it when I do because it's so personal, right?

Learn to laugh at yourself a bit. You're such a downer.

Dam I remember reading nag a very long time ago and they also had something similar, yet here I am still with a pc and gaming strong.

So as long as there are people and pc out there there will be someone making games for the pc.

I would think flashy, run and gun games ARE under the PCs strengths =). Mouse/Keyboard = lightning fast precision aiming and having access to the cutting edge hardware allows you to push the graphics to almost CGI quality. Crysis in many respects maxed out actually surpasses CGI quality, though you would still be hard pressed to max the game out.

I DO get the point you were trying to make though :D

I own both a console and a PC, for me i enjoy both. There are some games that i just pref to play on PC and then there are some that i enjoy more on the console.

Nah, PC gaming isn't going away anytime soon. It might be a minority market these days, but the fact is, there are loads of PC hardliners who wouldn't touch a console on (stupid) principle, or people will just can't afford console games, or people who prefer PC gaming for whatever reason. And where there's a market, there's someone cashing in on it.

Besides, some genres (RTS in particular) are simply much, much better suited to mouse and keyboard control. Until consoles broadly adopt those peripherals (and it won't happen in this generation), the PC is going to be king here.

If anything is killing PC gaming, it's piracy (whether in fact, or simply developer/publisher perspective) and dumb DRM policies. And whining. My god, PC gamers can whine.

yes we all winey bitches Azimuth, so stick to ur console and leave us alone and go write for NAG or something :p

i spend more money on my pc and upgrading that any of u console ppl ever will, pc will always be far superior technology.

Consoles are for s****d ppl :p

This Ladies and Gentlemen is what is knows at Flaming. User A posts something and poster B, disagreeing with User A but not having anything to say, retaliates with a persona l attack. This is a prime example of how not to post. And dropping in little comments like
Consoles are for s****d ppl :p
Does little to validate ur point, it actually has the oppisate effect. Everyone thinks ur a moron.
And for those of you who are curious what started this entire flamewar...

Out of that entire post, a post that could quiet easily have been mistaken for the post of a PC Gamer, that one word started this.

/thinks Consoles sucks and are the ultimate DRM system.
And is the reason he would never go buy one. :D

Ah but there you are making the same mistake as the developers;). Those games are not the strong point of PCs anymore. Generally those gamers have moved over to consoles( relax I said generally :p). The casual gaming( casual as in put the game in, it loads and you're on your way killing masses of alien creatures with your high powered atomic blaster... space marines to the rescue blah, blah....) is now the domain of consoles.

IMO if you wanna sell PC games you gotta focus on the small dedicated fan basis( stratergy, sim, adventure etc). Games that are not going to appeal to the masses who would just buy the game on console if it did. Look at Operation Flashpoint 2 for example. A sequel to a PC game with reasonably large and devout following. They went and dumbed it down so they could sell it cross platform. In the end you got a game that was a confused hybrid that impressed nobody. Certainly not on PC. Instead they should have focused everything on PC and the strengths of it's predecessor instead of wasting their efforts on dumbing it down for consoles. They would have released another PC classic.

Back in the glory days of PC gaming most gamers got a game and didn't touch it for an hour or two. Instead they were studying a thick manual to figure out how to play the damn game. Then another hour to get it to run properly. It was worth it then because the games were so damn good. Put the effort in and you were richly rewarded.

IMO game companies should spend less time and money on their 25 year old graphics programmers and more on experienced writers to develop characters and stories. Nowadays they devout probably just a day or two to that side of things. A half arsed effort to tie the game together before it's back to designing the coolest space marine weaponary to take on the bastard child of Satan and some weird alien species from the moons of Saturn *yawn*
