Competitions

You're also overlooking the fact that just because people have less posts doesn't mean they are necessarily new to the site, some of us lurk more than we post ;)

So although I agree with the OP that the 1 post wonders are annoying, maybe a system should be there that they can enter but the more regular people stand a greater of a chance of winning somehow.

/tests for secret handshake :D

Feb 2009 :P

The reason for the contests is to attract new people, and I hate sites which have an unfriendly atmosphere or a "noob" attitude towards new members, but god damn posting once and leaving is low.

Right so I'll take a guess and try an Internet Hi5? :o If that's not it then theres no secret handshake and I should automatically win said ps3 slim :)

I find I'm either on here or mybroadband and generally I end up posting a lot more there and just reading the articles about games on here, hence my Join date from last year yet my post count still low. So I might not be as active on the forums here but its not like I don't visit the site at all. I suppose it depends what the attention the site is looking for with these competitions, do they want more people active on the forum or just visitors to the site in general.

I'm all for the 1 hit wonders.

The more registered users the better chance of MyGaming getting advertisements. It sucks that they aren't staying but it's better than nothing. They just do themselves in in any case. They won't win and they don't bother to read the rules.

And I mean, we don't want people to remain here permanently if they can't even read a few rules about a compo.

So yeah, let them register, post their one post and leave. It's for the good of MyGaming.

I still say quality over quantity, it leads to prosperity in the long run. That why the spartans were successful, it's only when they started trying to expand there military that they fell.

And that applies to everything.

Well thats a good point. If its going to benefit the forum then so be it. Im all for it too.

Solitude said exactly what I was going to say. It sucks that we get all these one hit wonders who don't bother to contribute to the community but it gets eyes on MyGaming and maybe brings in at least a few new guys who do stay around for a while.

You are all missing the point. The idea of these comps are to get more members for the site. Bigger numbers mean bigger companies sponsors even bigger comps. Tsar & Raven a few months ago you where both new to the site. How would you have felt if they banned you coz you post "looked" like spam? Every one of us had to start at zero, don't forget that. As for Random threads and stupid post; Me and Rustpuppet will sort them out. Have some faith in our fearless leader, Tinman checks all posts by relative winner before awarding the prize.

+1 agreed and if say for example I'm monitoring the comp thread I see these one post wonders and they post their entry and notice a few days later that I havnt included their post... it forces some of them to actually go and read the rules...

I dont think i could have said it better

Yes, pretty much what OmegaFenix said.

The competitions are designed to get new people on the site. It does flood the forums with spammers for a few days, but they dont last long, and we have had a few guys stick around afterwards.

I realize that. I know the whole point of them is to get new members, but the dudes who don't read the rules are the annoying ones. Like firstpostlolfreestuff.

Anyway, no big deal.

@ the OP, lol, I agree with you on that, the only thing that does irk me about having a minimum post count to be eligible is, with that you get people posting a lot of k@rk, just to fill up that 20 post count.

I even find myself considering posting k@rk only to get that 20 posts out the way and be eligible, purely because I don't always post, unless I feel that I have something to contribute, say or add. And I am an active member who comes online almost on a daily basis to read the articles and posts.

Let's not forget that even the oldies were exactly the same...

We joined (and probably stayed) when Tincan offered FREE SHIRTS AND CAPS to everyone with more than 200 posts.

So most of us are guilty of being drawn to the site by prizes.
