Microsoft/Razer Habu double clicking issue

I’ve had the Habu for about 3 years now. It started to have the following problem after year 2, and after very little gaming use.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/266738
SYMPTOMS When you try to single-click a Microsoft mouse button, the computer responds as if you double-clicked the mouse button.

CAUSE This problem may occur for the following reasons:
  • You assume that you are performing a single physical click, when in fact, you are performing multiple clicks.
  • The mouse settings have been modified, either manually or by another program, to send a multiple-click command when you perform a single physical click.
  • The mouse drivers are corrupted.
  • The mouse hardware is defective.
Does anyone else have this mouse and are you experiencing the same double click issue? Note, that for me, it only double clicks once every few times. Sometimes it will occur more often and yet other times it doesn’t happen for a long time.

I have googled it and am trying various options to try to reflash the firmware as I suspect that to be the problem (the mouse exhibits this behaviour on different PC's and different OS's, namely XP, Vista & Win7). Perhaps I am in denial but I hope its not a hardware issue...

I haven’t been able to successfully flash the mouse since the last firmware update to v2.03 about 1.5 years ago. So, if anyone can point me in the right direction to fix this damn mouse, I’d be very grateful :)

Was going to get the ball rolling yesterday to see if Take2 would take the mouse back under their Returns policy, and now, the mouse has been behaving itself for the last 24 hours. go figure...

It would probably still be better to get it replaced before the warranty runs out. Wiggle the cable a bit and see if it loses its connection.

i have had this problem for a long time on razer habu, tryed firmware and software blah blah blah, tonight i fixed it :)
i had the mouse for so long that warranty is gone, and i saw a topic about a guy who took his habu to bits he said,
quote "HEY EVERYONE I FIXED THE DOUBLECLICK PROBLEM, can't belive i can use this mouse again, i peel off the bottom sticker foot. removed the QC sticker from the screw and removed screw, got top off, under the left click button there is a little black box with a thin white button, i carefully with a small flat head screwdriver lifted the black box slighty off its connection then pushed it back down again. i did this with the mouse plugged in blue lights on and everything. it instanly worked fine. hope this works for anyone else"

so i took mine to bits and i couldnt lift the box he mentioned, but i did have a good poke about with the screwdriver, now i wouldnt recomend this, but mine is old and always had this problem... but the poke around with the screwdriver seems to have done the trick, mainly poking the box(switch) under the left mouse button :) looking for anything not right.. got a full nights gaming out of it tonight with no problems at all, happy as larry...

I want to be as happy as larry too! Excellent first post though. Wish I knew that before I replaced the Habu.

Nice one taopaipai18. :)

Awesome first post goes to taopaipai18!

I would have said it is 1/ sensitivity / config issue, 2/ driver issue or 3/ hardware issue.

That is a good one :) I might have to try it. Update on my little Take 2 returns attempt:

On 23 Dec 2009, after being without my Habu for 10 days, Take 2 returned the mouse to me after it had been to their supplier and the supplier had tested it. Take 2 said (via email) there was nothing wrong with the mouse. I was tempted to crap all over the dude replying but instead I replied with a "that is odd, etc..." and kept my cool giving them the benefit of the doubt that maybe, just maybe it had happened to behave itself 100% while they had it.

It's behaved much better since getting it back from them, but it is starting to act up again one out of every 20 clicks or so. It occurs so seldom, I am not certain it is actually happening... but I reckon it is actually is spontaneously double clicking again but it's not that obvious depending on what I am doing at the time! But I digress...

My dilemna now is should I keep the Habu or contact Microsoft directly as they might be willing to trade me an X5 as replacement or possibly pay more to get the better Sidewinder Gaming mouse? I love my Habu, and just don't know is it better to keep the devil u know, or take a chance on the devil u dont :)

The 3 year anniversary of ordering/owning this mouse is approaching next month on 8 February...

EDIT/UPDATE:
No wonder they didn't find anything wrong with it, they only tested it for a day or two!
Good Day

According to the supplier the only tested it and they used it for a day or
two on one of there systems.

Try the suggestions mate... if the hardware is not faulty, it must be possible to sort it out.
I reckon it is the hardware. Moving the mouse around (i.e. from me to Take2) could have jiggled something loose in the mouse to make it behave again?

If it's not a hardware issue, pretty strange that it would come back and be working fine 99% of the time. I tried everything under the sun before (software wise), and nothing helped.

If it acts up again and I can't get Microsoft to exchange it then I guess taopaipai18's suggestion with come in handy.

[edit] Ultimately the best advice at the end of the day is for me to exchange the mouse via Microsoft and be done with it. If I don't try this and the mouse starts to get all double clicky again then I only have myself to blame unfortunately. [/edit]
