I was looking at buying Home Premium again like I did with Vista. Is it worth it going Pro or Ultimate?

i thought about it but i want to do a inplace upgrade and the silliness that is i can't go from win vista ultimate to 7 home premium

can only do a inplace upgrade to 7 ultimate...

Windows XP :p

It depends what you want to use the OS for. IMO its no use spending a lot on Ultimate when Home edition can do the same thing.

Depends on your needs, but for most people, and if you won't be plugging into a domain and need exchange support and all, Home Premium will do just fine.

Home Premium will be OK... IF you are a basic pc user

With Ultimate you can make use of stuff like - Bitlocker, XP Mode, Backup / Restore up files over the network, join work domain networks, file encryption, have more than one physical CPU in your PC, offline files, presentation mode, Applocker, support for Unix-based applications, virtual hard disk booting, VDI, MDTS, etc.

If you don't want any of these go for Home Premium.

PS> Enterprise is the equivalent of Ultimate, but it is only available to Companies with Volume Licensing agreements.

Home Premium it is! :)
Good Choice... I have noticed a fair amount of people going for Home Premium, since it has enough not to become over-complicated.

I think MS actually did a good job this time around with their versions.

I forgot to cover Pro in my previous e-mail, in Windows 7 Pro it supports the following - 2 Physical CPU's, XP Mode, file system encryption, Presentation mode, offline files, windows domain joining, being the biggest points.

In addition to above, Applocker and Bitlocker are the biggest ones in Ultimate.

Get PRO if you want to have good home network (Remote Desktop etc)
Don't go Ultimate unless it's for your job.

Home Premium should work great for most home users.

I'm using the Business edition myself though. Has all the features that I want. Ultimate is just wasted on me, have no use for bitlocker or even to add additional language packs.
