1st of, lets state what a "Casual Gamer" is in context of this post.

They the ones who buy any games they saw adds for on TV just because they thought "It looks shiny!" and regardless of what about the rest of the game, they still buy it. Than, they don't even commit to playing it, put it in and play it for 10 minutes and get bored and go do something else.

The others are those hipsters that flash all there games around like gold chains.

Those are the kinds of people I refer to in this topic.

Reason 1: Standards:
The casual market will buy anything and everything blow by their faces, they have no standards of quality.

Thus, quality of games are plummeting because the companies don't see the need to put any effort into the development of the games, they try and push them out as fast as possible and as pretty as possible.

Take MW2 for example. Despite all the shit about it, he game was the biggest business success for Activision. Why? Because people have no standards and can't hold there ground for shit (Just look at the famous petition picture thats floating around). And thats actually the biggest reason to not accept the casual market.

Reason 2: Useless Crap
Windows Live, Rockstar Social, the lot! Why are these things being FORCED onto people? Why can't be an optional extra? Because the casual market is too retarded to find an outside venue to set things like that up.

Reason 3: Appreciation
The true gamers, the ones who game for the love it. We practically worship the companies who bring out our favourite games, and before the casual flood, the companies used to feed of that, thats what kept them going, the love of games, the love they receive from gamers. Now where has that gone? The casual market doesn't deserve the games they play because they can't appreciate them, they don't care, as long as they look cool or feel "h2rdc03 l33t" doing it.

If you have nothing useful to contribute to this, please go away.

Most casual gamers are uneducated when it comes to games lets take transformers. Allot of people bought that game because "it looked cool". I think casual gamers need to be educated a bit. I have noticed that people have a need to share every thing over the net. And I for one can't stand it.

P.S Great article.

I think we should rather disown retarded elitists who presume to dictate what fun is, and who's allowed to have any.

I just think people should be educated on games. Instead of wasting money on games that are made shittlly.

I think people should stop obsessing about what other people are doing or spending their money on.

All I am trying to say is if people spend more money on good titles we would see more of them as the gaming industry is all about money of late.

I normally wouldn't care, I'de just tel them make the stupid choises, but when it starts affecting me negatively, than I can't accept that. If the companies could make all that money, make just as many games, but still keep them a high quality (Witch the can!) than it wouldn't bother me one bit. But no, they cut corners where ever they can to turn that 500% profit into a 501% profit.

FACT: There are more good games released annually now than ever before. It doesn't matter what casual gamers are doing.

I know that. I just would like to see more original games than the "safe" choice.

yeah, GOOD games, but there are even less GREAT games out now, i mean absolutely great, games that would breach the 90% scores on the review standards of the 90s.

I have noticed games are very hard any more. Even on the most difficult setting.

Yeah, thats another thing. Games are being dumbed down with the level of skill required to acomidate for the casuals who have no talent, leaving the rest of us without any chalenge.

What? You know why most AAA games are "safe" FPSes? Because that's what most "hardcore" gamers play. Or didn't you know that the "hardcore" are still playing Counter-Strike? :P

Also, maybe you're not looking hard enough for "original" experiences. Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Darksiders, Brutal Legend, Ghostbusters, Overlord II, Shadow Complex - all these games have come out in the last year, and offered something a little different to bang bang shooty shooty. Maybe it's time you broadened your horizons a bit.

I don't just play shooty shooty bang bang:p And I always have hated cs. I can't play some of those games as I do not have a console. I did play bat man and I really enjoyed it(Except that it was not the hardest of games.)

Like Tsar said, we don't have consoles. I don't know about tsar, but I would gladly have owned multiple consoles just for those exclusives. But I won't, for the same reasons that I won't buy Win Live, EA, or Activision, it's out of prinicple that I wont help to support the decline of gaming, I won't have anymore of that filth on my hands.

Ubisoft is still the last company I know that can cater to both hardcores and casuals equaly, they, I will gladly support.

I would love to own a console but alas it is to expansive. One game I am glad I bought and was a steam game was dawn of war 2

ow my god this is such a bullshit thread. why do people post such kak ? :D

i support both casual and AAA. why? simple if you don't gief towards the up and coming developers then there will be less in the pool who can gief us awesome things. suppose i have to say that casual for me is all things related to indie games.

also important to note that casual gamers do also buy hardware / consoles which further fuels the need for those platforms. lastly sims did give a great deal back to EA which added to their funds to gief to those AAAs we have now.

...i suppose not much youngings would know that ati's greatest booster was always oem shitty cards.

[Start Sarcasm] Oh noes! Woe is us the "hardcore" gamers! The "casual" gamers are watering down our gaming experience and dragging down our gaming experience to their level. We must rise up fellow gamers and shake our fist at these casual whoa re "ruining" our gaming experience! [/End Sarcasm]

They the ones who buy any games they saw adds for on TV just because they thought "It looks shiny!" and regardless of what about the rest of the game, they still buy it.

So with the exception of Nintendo Wii what other casual games get advertised on local tv and radio?

Than, they don't even commit to playing it, put it in and play it for 10 minutes and get bored and go do something else.

Actually the average "casual" gamer spends about the same amount playing their games then someone who plays Half-life 2 as a recent study has shown.

In Nielsen GamePlay Metrics data for March 2009, we tracked 847 PC casual game titles. Those 847 titles were played by over 43 million unique persons. On average, those 43 million players played around 30 minutes a day. Casual games account for 75 percent of the total number of minutes of PC video game play across all video game titles we track.

I have a really hard time seeing casual gamers doing this kind of thing as this is more the domain of the "hardcore" gamer you know my e-penis is bigger than yours. My gaming score is higher than yours ect...

Reason 1: Standards: The casual market will buy anything and everything blow by their faces, they have no standards of quality.

Who would have thought? Since most casual games budgets done exceed a couple of thousand. While a big production house goes into millions.

The term “casual” refers to games that are typically inexpensive to produce, straightforward in concept, easy to learn, and simple to play.

Take MW2 for example. Despite all the shit about it, he game was the biggest business success for Activision. Why? Because people have no standards and can't hold there ground for shit (Just look at the famous petition picture thats floating around). And thats actually the biggest reason to not accept the casual market.

Don't blame the developers or the game blame your "hardcore" jommies for not having the backbone to sit the boycott through I made a nice little blog post about it sometime ago:

I can understand why the PC gaming community is pissed about this sudden change of events, but I think it’s important to remember that this is Infinity Ward game, they can do whatever they want to with it.They don’t owe gamers anything. They didn’t have to make this game, they did it because they wanted to. If you don’t like the way they did it, then don’t get it. That’s what being a consumer is all about.

Reason 2: Useless Crap
Windows Live, Rockstar Social, the lot! Why are these things being FORCED onto people? Why can't be an optional extra? Because the casual market is too retarded to find an outside venue to set things like that up.

Windows Live is a integrated service which has been on the Xbox since forever and takes a grand total of 10 minutes to set up properly. Same as with PSN and personally I think these are great online services for those who has a bit of patients and willing to put in some effort into it.

Reason 3: AppreciationNow where has that gone?

Loads of companies still care and share their passion of gaming with their fans. And those who dont can you blame them? People steal their work sign up for silly petitions ect..

Reason 3: AppreciationThe casual market doesn't deserve the games they play because they can't appreciate them, they don't care, as long as they look cool or feel "h2rdc03 l33t" doing it.

That actually describes the "hardcore" elitists to the letter, the very same group of people who go up in arms and petition at a drop of a hat when things done go their way. Rather ironic dont you think?
