This Months NAG

Love the idea - but it might stop little Tommies Ma from buying it for him.

Lol yeh true... im just saying in general for like the eagerly awaited games should have a "theme" added to the NAG cover and sometimes on the plastic itself :) would work well :)

Like a wet magazine for Bioshock 3

/applies for a marketing job

Spine binding is much more expensive. We're in a recession. That's all there is to it.

I think perhaps you've misunderstood Michael's explanation - the magazine couldn't have more than 100 pages because it would be too expensive to print. Hobbyist magazines like NAG don't have the same budgets as Cosmo and FHM.

Also, there are fewer pages mostly because there are fewer ads. The actual written content hasn't been reduced much (if) at all.

Uhm...the recession has subsided. Stop using it as an excuse. It's like blaming apartheid for everything. Oh no wait. The ANC still does that every day. Are you an ANC member? It would explain your train of thought.

Anyways, how much more would Spine binding push the price up with? I think the new staple binding thing makes the NAG more prone to bend and curl and generally LOOKS like a trashy tabloid paper magazine.

I'm moving to PC Format because I pay the exact same price and get a magazine that at least looks and feels better than toilet paper.

Oh, and making use of the recession as an excuse on a forum where people pre-order R1300 games such as GoW....silly move dude...silly silly.

They put sand in the mag? I thought this topic was a joke at first.

And yeah, the recession is over

1. I'm not a dude.
2. I work for the magazine as a freelancer, and the recession might officially be over, but I'm still feeling it in my pay cheque, thanks. How about you send an email to all the magazine's advertisers, and tell them the recession is over? I'd really appreciate that.
3. Since you obviously think what a magazine looks like is more important than the content inside, I'm sure you'll love PC Format. Bye bye.

See above.

ONe could collect as many copies of the new nag as possible, empty the sand into a frame and build one of those cool mini zen gardens. Just need a mini rake!

For me, marketing like that is aimed to lure ppl, prospective new readers to the mag. It wouldn't even phase me if it had a picture of the linux pengiun in a thong busy getting freaky with Barney the dinosaur on it. I see NAG on shelf, I buy NAG on shelf. I see PCF on shelf, I buy PCF on shelf...........

as would any fully employed person know that's its more of recovery than over now anyway. most like my company is in savings mode, it's not even funny.

Have you guys never thought of cutting your fees to attract more advertisers- we used to place ads in NAG but it became way to expensive.

This. There is indeed a recession on the go, so you'd think that NAG would do whatever it can to offset the loss of customers through high prices...

Anyway...

Imagine what the magazine packagers said when they got their instructions from NAG:

"You want to put WHAT in the magazine sleeve?!"

I'm an economist, Recession was officially over last August for South Africa.

Sure, tell that to all the people still getting laid off, including all the guys who lost their jobs when SACM folded last month. The recession's over on paper, but that doesn't magically make it over in reality. The effects will be felt for some time still.

I agree with you there. Just because somebody says the recession is over does not mean that all the lost money will reappear.

That presumes that the money was there to begin with, which is the presumption on which this current recession is based upon - the presumption that overly inflated property values could serve as collateral for a debt. I.e. Imaginary money being used to back up real money.

yeh I dunno hey, i own my own business and i never went through a recession.
actually i made lots of money ^.^
