Sapphire 5970 4GB OC answer to Fermi?

LMAO that is a monster. But I don't think you'll be able to run that thing in Crossfire due to the fans sticking PAST the 2nd slot! Also, 22K in Vantage is amazing for a single card. But that's what I'm scoring at the moment from my 2 GTX280s so I'm not seeing a real reason to upgrade yet?
 
eish.. but first I wanna see fermi scores and prices compared with 5000. nVidia can tell us it will be this great and that great, and maybe it is, but at what price?

We'll see what Fermi has to offer later this month :) I'm still very excited about it, but, seeing as it's Nvidia I'm not holding my breath and I'm actually expecting a bit of a "fail" moment from them.

Depends on which mobo you buy hey. The one EVGA board has six 16X pci-e slots. Which should allow crossfire :p

This gpu is gonna be good, but the only real use for the extra video memory is if you're playing on a 30" pc moniter, with AA and AF turned on. Even at 1920X1080, my 2 X 5870 1gb cards don't take a hit when i turn on AA and AF.

Who knows what fermii will be like in the end...

Take Charlie's articles with a pinch of salt. He's very anti-nvidia. Aside from that though, some of the predictions he's made in the past couple of months w.r.t. Fermi have been pretty accurate.

That would be a big WTF if those power reqs are correct. I don't even know of any 42A power supplies. I have two fairly high end PSUs right here, a Coolermaster 850W Real Power Pro and Coolermaster 900W UCP. They are capable of 18A and 22A respectively and neither of them are cheap, not even by enthusiast standards.

I'm not sure if I believe those reqs... yet... but if they are true, they would be shooting themselves in the feet. The price of a GTX480 is going to be steep, but I'm sure people will fork for it. If they need to get another VERY expensive PSU on top of that when ATI has a competitively priced top end card that can run on a budget PSU, sales may suffer to say the least.
