Free the Web

So I came across this on Facebook and it looks mighty interesting...I wonder what their "plan" is?

For too long now, we've been hearing about how bandwidth costs in South Africa are going to be dropping. Friends in Europe and the US go on and on about how they can download anything they want without having to worry about data usage.
The purpose of this page is to highlight the effect of high bandwidth costs on ordinary South African small and medium business owners as well as the man on the street.

Something big is on the horizon… the time for change has come.

It's time to Free the Web! Be part of this movement for change!

Hi Everyone, Thanks for joining Free The Web SA! We started this group because we are tired of the limitations of the web in South Africa. It's time we have cheaper broadband without limits. Let's free the web and make it affordable to all South Africans. We have a plan and in a short time will be able to reveal it to you. Please tell you friends to join us. With enough support, a better internet is on the way. (6 hours ago)

if I had a 1 Rand for every FB group I joined for a cause, I could afford 4mbs uncapped :D, these FB groups never amount to anything

I thought so at first too, but it seems different in some way.

They keep telling people that they're going to announce something "very soon" and say they have some sort of plan. Looks pretty professional too.

Really has me interested!

Well I wouldn't like them to fail.

At least they are doing something. Well, saying that they are going to do something.

Good luck:mad: Telkom does not care.

Dude Telkom never cared.... if and when Neotel decide to pull finger and get themselves in line then that will be the time that Telscum falls hard

Doesn't LLU play a role?

I think Neotel would have rather gone the line route than wireless.

LLU plays a big role.

And if we can get government to pull finger (impossible probably) - then we will probably see some improvement. But as long as Telkom sits on that last mile connection - we're stuffed.

2011, with any luck. But don't get your hopes up.

Shoe. Mweb uncapped. Mweb is actually doing something to help SA's internet people.

Still is a bit expensive (for me, not compared to other companies.)
