Ok I see your point, though it is still mostly accurate in terms of the number of COPIES sold rather than the number of purchases via any means.

Its accurate for normal retail but its irrelevant when most of the pc gaming market in the US has moved to digital distribution. Even the normal US retailers like gamespot,ect offer a download service on their site because of the decline of normal retail and the growth of digital distribution.

Our bandwith prices are currently too high. When you are paying R100 for 1 gig international bandwith its too expensive.
 
out of the top20, i've got 3 of those...2 for pc and 1 for xbox...

...bought no new games for march....so far :)

Well we also pay a bit less for PC games in SA than what STEAM sells games for (US prices). So even for those with uncapped accounts, it just doesn't make sense.

I am personally not a massive STEAM fan. I have found it buggy, and get annoyed when it takes an extra 2 minutes to start a game because STEAM is logging in and authenticating. And then there are the mandatory downloads.

Even retail copies that require STEAM, such as the Orange Box and now Dawn of War II are annoying.

Now, if we had a STEAM like service for console games I would be psyched because we pay far too much for Console games in this country.

The mandatory downloads are only an issue because of our bandwith issues. Personally since I run steam at startup I hardly notice it when I start a game. In fact my steam games startup faster than my EA/securom 7 games.

You are correct at the pricing but then steam has a lot more special deals throughout the year than our local retailers offer. Their weekend deals are very good.

Those 75% off weekends deals are just too good to miss on Steam.
I have been using Steam for about 5 years and have no complaints so far.
