Gt 220 1080p stutter

Well, one way to eliminate codecs as a problem is to try VLC and see if things get better or worse, if playback gets better/acceptable they're definitely the culprit. Other than that, format and start fresh =)

I had a similar problem running Fullscreen HD on my Laptop
Problem turned out to be Vista, it has a process that controls all sound for Windows called Audiodg.exe.
This process is well known to cause both sound and video framerate loss on Vista as it sometimes tops out at more than 25% CPU Usage, for doing absolutely nothing.
I solved this the good old fashioned way, Upgraded to Win 7 :)

You should have NO issues running on Linux, but give MythTV a try, now that's what HTPC Dreams are made of

Yo :) Running Xbmc on Vista, need to backup all my stuff to run it on Kubuntu. Downloading the new 190.53 for Linux to test out the same video in Linux to compare. (Pulling the drivers as we speak) Otherwise its Winblows 7 for me ;/

Yep read that article, there were a few more which pointed me to a cheap solution for HD playback for my HTPC.. Gonna try it tonight and see if the Linux version renders it flawlessly..
 
keen to see how it all goes, let us know, I've always wondered if a linux solution would be better for HTPC
Mine runs XP and it's all good.

Considering buyin Win7, purely coz I bought Win7 for my other machines and I think i should make use of the homegroup.
 
Hmmm it did not ;[ Tried it on Kubuntu 9.10, ran it in mplayer as well as vlc. Think something is up with my config, the stutters are more predominant on the Up 1080p full screen rip. I read up on xine-vdpau which i might need hopefully that might do the trick. I even tried command line with the same result:

mplayer -vc ffh264vdpau -vo vdpau /home/mediafile.mkv

Althought I have installed the 190.53 drivers from Nvidia, i have a feeling that there is a vdpau package that is missing.

Boy...ok really you should be able to playback 1080p no problem. There may be a hardware fault with the card. Or what other specs do you have? Is there enough ram?
 
Eish, mayhap try a trial Win7 installation, i think you get 30days with Win7 when you don't install a serial number.... give that a try before slitting yer wrists
