Sony Bravia if he is on budget he can get a 32" full HD for around R5000 even less if he shops around a bit. If he wants to splurge he can go for a 46" which goes for around R20 000 I myself is a owner of the 32" model for almost 4 years now and it has been giving me great service. Going to upgrade to a 46" when I am done moving into new place.

I would stay far away from Wantitall they are a big rip off when it comes to pricing rather try these sites:

Also recommend Dion Wired they have monthly specials: http://www.dionwired.co.za/

Sony and Samsung seem to make the best TV's at present. Really depends on what price he is looking to pay and the quality he is willing to accept. Would be best to shop around and compare prices and panels. Don't be fooled into thinking that a certain name brand has better panels then another as even in one name brands product range the image quality can vary drastically. There are also quite a few specials on at the moment from the likes of Game and Makro. He could save a good amount of money by checking out their weekly specials.

Yep my mate bought the V-series from Game on the 'We'll beat any price' guarantee from Game. Just go to Game with proof that Makro has the TV for R7999 and they will reduce their price to that (it was marked for R11999!) - this is if you dont have a Makro close to you of course :P

I have 2 32" Sammys, series 3 HD ready LCD's. Have them for almost two years now. So far no issues.

My advice is this: 32" is perfect for gaming. Another thing is you wont really notice the difference between HD ready and HD on anything smaller then 50". And to get that full HD experience you really need a big enough room for it. My 32" is about 3M away from me in my lounge and works fine. For anything bigger then 40" you need at least 5M for optimal viewing and gaming.

Also using a 32" sony and had no problems - except for the annoying auto contrast feature which had to be turned off

I know what you mean. For gaming it is fine. But it interferes with my DSTV. But got hold of some Infra-red stickers for the front of the two decoders. Working like a charm now.

I use a Samsung series 5 42"...works awesomely!!!! (although maybe a bit steeper than 5K)

Just steer clear of LG...had one, packed up after 8 months...same with friend of mine....motherboard packs up....

I love my Samsung 32". I had the choice between the Bravia and the Samsung and chose the Samsung because it has more HDMI ports.
