Nvidia or ATI?

Personally I think ATI kix Nvidia's posterior time after time when it comes to performance - don't know why Nvidia is getting more exposure on these threads.

The only answer is, take the one you can afford, if money isn't an object, buy both and test which one you like the most. :p

I go for whichever is the best at the price that I can afford. I recently bought a Nvidia 9800gtx+ since it competed against the 4850 but the 4850s were all more expensive.

However in the end I do prefer Nvidia over ATI a bit. Just a little bit though. ;) I've owned both.

Bought a 9800GTX+ as well, I usually look at the crysis benchmarks on tomshardware and compare with prices to find the best value for money. I actually struggle more with brands than types of cards.

Well what I've heard is that on different price levels it would be better to go for different cards. E.g. Nothing really competes with the 4850 on it's price point but when you get to the 4870 price point, the GTX260 becomes competition. Ati has DX10.1 which Nvidia doesn't but Nvidia has Phyx.

Name me one good game that uses 10.1??? Fucking DX11 is launching end of this year most probably Q1 2010 so shhh about 10.1 it does nothing.

As for price performance a GTX 260 core 216 55nm refresh is on average $10 cheaper than a 4870. So buy it on ebay.co.za and ship it here. You will save about R1000-R1500. Nvidia performance(better than ATI even with dual GPU cards because they actually make drivers) and extra wise(cuda anyone?) is excellent. They also solve driver issues within 48 hours of a game launch. ATI releases 3 drivers a year.

I've owned both (currently a Geforce 8800GT) and I have to say I cant stand ATI Catalyst Control Center. ATI has terrible drivers and thats why I don't buy ATI anymore. But I have no allegiance, I buy what ever is best at my price point at the time and when the 8800GT came out, it was the best at it's price point.

When I get my PC I'll be getting the GTX 260.

Oh well to bad...Don't care what any of you ATI haters say..My xfx ati 4850 is on the way and I so can't wait anymore!!!

The Ebb and flow of the never ending battle. I'd dont prefer either of them, whichever one is good at the time is the one I will look for. All of us living in this country no monopolies are a very bad thing (kaff, kaff, telk*m) so the better the competition the better for all of us.

Matter of preference I suppose. They both make fantastic and reliable products, I've always gone Nvidia and it's always been a winner for me. So, that's the route I will continue to take.

I prefer ATI, now with AMD & ATI teaming up. I think its a good combination to stick with as their new designs will most probably give the best performance when used together.

I used to be Nvidia all the way but switched to ATI due to cost vs performance (I refuse to spend RxXx for marginal perfomance gains) and have stuck with ATI ever since.
