Steam Games Stand Alone Patches

Ok, so I'm getting irrtated with the slow and unreliable auto updates on steam and it's inability to let me play while it downloads those patches. So I was wondering if there are any places that can provide reliable stand alone patch installers?

No they can't. The normal retail stand alone patches do not work for steam. The steam patches are customized. Also what do you mean with unreliable?? Never had any issue with steam as far as that goes.

Also you can't play normal retail games while the patch is installing either and that's what happens during the steam patching process. Speed is an issue with your internet connection not steam.

I have had a few issues were the auto downloader would seem to start re-downloading the same update agin. For the most part Steam works well thouth. To the OP, I don't think that you can used 'normal' ptaches on a Steam game.

Well I know it's my slow connection, and thats the problem. Why can't it download and than install later when it's done? Thats why I'm looking for 3rd party patches for some of these games.

You can switch off the auto updates, you know. Just right-click on the game in your steam games window, go to properties, and it should be somewhere in there. The updating itself isn't really an issue for me - gives me time to run off and make coffee - but, ya ... limited bandwidth et al - I don't have the luxury of uncapped just yet.

ja, it's easy enough to switch off the updates and there definately is no way to patch the games off-line since they are steam versions.

I still love steam though, I could have my house burn down and if i have an internet connection, it means that i can still have access to the games i bought, can't say the same for the poor boxes that are burnt to pieces.....
