Killzone 2.....your thoughts?

Hi guys,

I bought Killzone 2 for the PS3 over the weekend for a bargain R150. I watched the review on gamespot and they were pretty much blown away by it. What's your take on the game? Any good? I'm looking forward to trying to play a FPS on the console. I'm pro-PC when it comes to FPS games...but I thought you cannot have an opinion about something if you haven't tried it first...and Killzone 2 seemed like the best console FPS to try out.
 
Played it... hated it. As for looks... meh. Halo 3 looks better. The controlls and fist person cover mechanic doesn't work. Im use to shooters on consoles as i own a xbox and have for a long time. I had to drop difficulty down to piss easy for KZ not coz its hard but coz the control scheme is so bloody confusing. After i got my HDMI cable for the ps3 i booted up kill zone to see it in glorious HD... its only 720p where as Halo 3 runs at 1080p.... Will replay it once i have a bit more time. It was one of the big disappointments i got when first playing ps3.

Good to know... I've been an avid console FPSer since I got my XBOX about 3 years ago. Only recently got a PS3 (due to PnP's delightful little special :D) so now I'm looking at getting some PS3 games. KillZone 2 looked really good, together with the 2 Resistance games.
 
Hated resistance also, played 10 minutes then traded it. Kill Zone i still have as i want to play it, it just never wowed me. Wait till Halo Reach Hits, its going to bring something completely new to console FPSes, not just in MP but also in SP.

What was wrong with Resistance? By your comments you seem a bit apprehensive of the PS3... Are the games really that bad or are you just an XBOX fanboy? I'm open to new console-gaming experiences, so I won't go bashing any console just yet.
 
Killzone 2 is insane!! Gives you a true feel of a futuristic war torn land. MW2 (finished it) and BC2 (still playing) are the other 2 FPS titles that i have on the PS3. I am at the final stage in the Academy with Radec and I just can't get past his minions..Tried it over ten times ;/

Ive had my xbox considerably longer than my PS3 so i might be a little baised but im very far removed from being a fanboy. I just didn't like resistance, it didn't speak to me, Controls felt unintuetive and the story was a little o.O. I got it free with my PS3 so it was no big loss trading it. Kill Zone i played a good 3 or so hours of before i found something else, think i was reviewing something for my gaming..., and tried getting back into it and just couldn't so ill have to restart it. My Aprehension with it was that it was labled the "Halo 3 Killer" just like the original Kill Zone was labled the "Halo Killer" and both times it fell far, far short of Bungie's master pieces. Though the visuals are goodish the characters where total stero-types and the story really didn't make an aweful lot of sense, that could be coz i didn't play Kill Zone but if i could i would.

Ill replay it at some point, it had some fun parts but nothing that kept me comming back.
 
KZ2 was a snore-fest, absolutely nothing that you haven't seen before. It's not bad for a quick frag or two, but don't expect it to revolutionize the genre.
 
I don't have an Xdoos so can't comment on Halo unfortunately.

Thinking of getting myself a cheap arcade bundle to check out some of the exclusives though.
 
Personally I loved KZ2. Its different from Gears of War in that you cant just run and gun....which took me some getting used to. Visually I thought it looked pretty good. Just my five cents!
 
Gears... 3rd Person, KZ2 fist person. Gears Runngun and u die, use cover. KZ2 Runngun possible, cover mechanic sucks. Do u perhaps mean halo? Coz halo is Run and gun all the way.
 
Yes where people in Halo sparkle when they get shot :p hehehe
Killzone was awesome due to the fact that when you shot a guy in the leg the guy would scream in pain and grab his leg! That was really awesome I thought and their AI is pretty awesome too!
I've played Halo 3 online and KZ2 online and Both are pretty awesome!

Halo 3 actually runs at 640p and is upscaled to 1080p ;)

Also the world knows KZ2 looks better than Halo, though it doesn't play as well as Halo.
It's got a good multiplayer though and is still played regularly amongst locals

Really! Lol. Serves me right for believing the Box.

KZ had a more rugged look where as Halo was more shiny... I agree it doesn't have the "5min of fun" thing going from halo. I liked the incorporation of the Sixaxis though, thought that was different.
 
Okay...but answer this: Since this is my very first FPS on a console, is Killzone 2 a good enough game to base my opinion on FPS games for the consoles?
