Dude sues Sony over removing Linux from PS3

I Dont see he's Logic, basically if he didnt want linux gone then he souldnt have updated... That what sony say when you updating, it clearly makes you aware of the choice you have to make or refuse. The next question is why would you want to sue sony for removing linux most users never used this feature to begin with. And those that do or did said it wasnt worth the effort...

If sony removed the feature as a sercurity risk, that could cause piracy i dont see this guy winning. Even on a class action lawsuit, Linux served no purpose on the PS3 when it was there and they more than made up for taking it away, when PS3 first came out it only played music, dvds, blu-rays and games... Through the years sony have added value to the console as it supports more formats. When they took linux away they added 3D gaming which is a plus for most folks. Come on this guy is just suing for nonsense, or he didnt read the license agreement when he updated his console. And lost his linux portion of the HDD which was clearly put out in the License Agreement.

I say allow him to sue but only for the cost to re-imburse him for the PS3 (but $5 mill seems a bit stupid and greedy). Now assume it ran something useful as that second OS (and by useful I mean a feature that was used by more people)...a lot more of us would have been upset about the forced removal. As for 3D...I can't say I care too much about it to warrant another 1000+ minor but compulsory updates that are bound to be coming our way because of "3D" support.

ZAP, there are literally tons of people using PS3's as low-cost high-powered number crunchers. I posted an article on here somewhere a while ago about all the PS3 computer clusters that the US military are using. And with it pretty much being a very cheap BluRay player, you can't ignore the fact that it has benefits to an OS.

What a daft idiot. Linux support was never billed as a feature or an added extra - If you want to run Linux, buy a PC you idiot!

You need to read what Voicy said. Seriously.

Anyways, the guy's name that is taking Sony to court is A. Ventura. I find that hilarious! Let's go to court! AAAALLLLRIGHTY THEN!!! lol

Fair enough... Those people then would be unaffected as long as they arent playing games there is no need to update. And the update isnt forced on you if you using the OS feature it is forced on you if you playing games on the console. Yes you could argue that they should have kept linux support and continued to upgrade the system as before. But In reality linux supoort was only on the older models since the Slim hit no PS3 buyer had bought the console for linux support

And if the US military and universities are using these consoles for cheap number crunching and if they are updating there software regularly then i am sure they could contact SCEA or SCEE and ask for a solution to cater their needs as for the general population of planet earth you either qualify for a rebate or something. AFAIK its just been disabled not removed.

The other thing i realised now is when your console breaks should you have 20, 40, 60 or 80GB models, your replacement will come fully updated and linux will be reoved regardless of your stance on the matter.
