Sony extends PS3 warranty, for a fee.

I would definitely get the $60(R480) option. R20 a month for peace of mind is well worth it. I hope we get this locally but knowing the south african industry it would most probably be double the cost internationally.

I wonder if this only covers consoles after purchase of warranty or would they consider consoles already ylodded when purchasing a new warranty.

You know this seems nice, but honestly, are this gens consoles made out of papier-mâché and tin cans!? They just seem so shoddily made, and now you need to fork out more cash!

Guess you never owned a VCR or one of the early DVD players. All tech is crap :P

Haha yeah, but it seems to be getting worse on many different fronts over time :p
Sometimes feels like they are inventing new and creative ways to get money out of a customer (within reason).

I'll sign up for it. Now, they must offer this to customers who already own consoles as well, that are within the warranty period still....otherwise a lotta people, including me, will be pissed...

its only because we now have the technology to follow all these failures.........such as forums and gamer sites.

Yeah I would certainly think that is part of it, but in general I have noticed a drop in quality over time in most products, not just pertaining to gaming. I have spoken to many people that would agree with that.

That's the whole point. So that it can brake, we fork out more money to buy new units and they get richer. Nothing is made to last anymore. Everything is about maximizing profit and income.

Edit: Very few people in South Africa had the pleasure of owning a Xbox 1 console. My friend has one and it is still working to this day. Never had any problems with it at all. Halo and Halo 2 is still rocking solidly on it along with plenty of other games. Why could they not make the Xbox 360 as durable as the first iteration of the Xbox console?

well im a biker and we have similar debates in the biking community the new bikes although they top class stuff they just cant handle the long road anything over 30 000kms and you start spending big bucks to maintain the bike.

NOW here is my theory.......bike manufacturers no longer make bikes for long use most bikes get written off with under 10 000kms on the clock SO why make a bike last longer

In first world countries they change their bikes every year and they crush the older models

I wonder if gaming consoles have similar schemes.......in other words why make console Y last so long when we bringing out console Z soon.....

ah well me and my conspiracy theories
