LG Scarlet 42-inch LCD TV reviewed

Quite a good home entertainment display, which just lacks good sound, but excels in just about every other sense.Interestingly, the 32-inch and 47-inch models offer a better 'square-inch for your buck' return. These units are in the same family, so their features are comparable. Returning this one is going to hurt!

Nice...Still prefer our new 40" bravia..she's so pretty and gorgeous not to mention the fact that she makes for an excellent Pc lcd!!
I'll take a photo in the morning...lol!!

@tinman: Notice the insane amount of heat that comes off LG units? It's crazy. Looked at a bunch of TVs this afternoon and LG radiated the stuff.

I'd like to see that setup - my mate in durbs has a similar thing going. I bought the Sinotec 32" 720P LCD tv for 5 clips that I'm using as my PC screen / Xbox monitor. It makes me cry less inside. Resolution isn't very high - but it's excellent for browsing and gaming.

Seen much better.Sony or philips rapes it

Nah mate, that's not how we roll here... at least substantiate it with a couple of facts or comments of personal experience. Tinman's basically reviewed the economic viability of buying one (knowing full well it's not the best on the market - and for SA gamers who don't have rich dads - it shouldn't be either)

Perhaps you can give us a review on similar screens that you would rather recommend to the gamers reading this. I for one would have loved to have more info on gaming lcd's before I bought mine - I was just fortunate that it didn't suck too badly.

Thing is, I know I'm going to be in for an LCD in the near future (I have an LG non-LCD at the moment) but I can't justify it quite yet - since all that's attached to it at the moment is my Media Server. I do some gaming on it but not nearly as much as the PC. PS2 is about it really.

One day I'll be forced to go for the LCD but the price will have to drop a little first.

I'll post the pic for you Mr voicy!!

That's the other thing of course. I just want a TV with no speakers attached. I have a good sound system for a reason. It's like LCD monitors with speakers built in. Never saw the point.

Ya well i owned an lg once and it gave me endless troubles so i will never touch it again. But thats just me

If you open up an LG, Tedelex, Sony, pretty-much-everything-except-panasonic, you'll be surprised to find that most of them use philips based component sets and IC's anyway.

The era of bad brands staying bad has long since passed with the new level of competitiveness and industry shared components.

Philips has become pretty common. Weird though that you had problems with LG. All my stuff is LG - DVD player, home theatre, TV etc.

I was looking at buying one some time back. It is a good display from what I looked at, but the Sony and Samsung models will give it a hard time.

And I won't even name the brand I decided to go with, though I don't regret it one bit :)

I must say when it comes to lcd tv's sony owns the lot!!
We had a 50 inch Sony bravia for 2 years, i sold it recently on my broadband and that tv rocked. Now ive got a monster Sony bravia full HD 40 inch that pretty much owns any other lcd tv!!

I dunno dude, the experience must be epique ... but I just cannot justify the price. I mean hell's bells ... I felt bad paying R5k for my 32" lcd. I'm glad I bought it though, but still. I'm weird like that.

Yeah..I must say it was rather pricey, R14 999 to be exact. Its awsome though!!
I'll be taking a pic of the setup and posting it later tonight.
