And games get blamed for violence again

Berlin - German retailer Kaufhof will no longer sell violent video games and films, after a teenager - who was an avid gamer - shot dead 15 people before killing himself last week, the firm said on Wednesday.

"On the basis of what happened in Winnenden, we have decided to take all the games and films deemed unsuitable for below 18 year olds out of our product range," Kaufhof spokesperson Sonja Kittel told AFP.

"The products which we now have in the stores will be sold until the end of March but by April the sales will be stopped all together," Kittel said.

Thomas Burkhart, director of Kaufhof's media department, said within an hour of the decision, most of the games had been removed from the shelves.

So this guy is a moron and no Kaufhof no longer sells violent games. Fantastic news for the other retailers.

yes apparently it was cs first, but now they changed it to farcry2...

...books, scrolls, tapes, movies, cave paintings, music, comics; you name it- have had the blame since the beginning of time.

It's getting to be insane. When retailers take the inevitable knock to their sales just to placate some people who are in a tizzy it goes over the edge.

"who was an avid gamer"

You know ... news papers who do not have proper stories and have to resort to thinking up garbage like this to get on the "games are bad" bandwagon _REALLY_ grind my tits.

Using the exact same logic, the following statement rings true as well:

Bread is bad for you.

Prove it? Sure!

- 100% of violent criminals eat bread.
- 10 000/10 000 drunk drivers were reported to have consumed bread within 3 days of their accidents
- A census showed that every time a student fails a test, it occurred within 24 hours of eating bread.
- 100% of people developing lung cancer consumed bread throughout at least 50% of their childhood.
- 100% of suicides recorded in 2007 were by people who ate bread on a daily basis.
- 100% of divorced families were in possession of bread in their houses.
- Every recorded commercial airline crash had trace amounts of bread on board.

There you have it folks.

I mean really now ... sure the kid PLAYED games... even a lot of it. But if they want to point a finger at gaming, I want them to perform a study where a perfectly sane kid goes mental after playing games & watching violent movies for 5 years. Until then...

STFU!

OMG
Blaming games again..I wonder why they don't blame zimbabwe on games..Im sure Mugabe playes sim city!!
FFS this pisses me off!!

Oh noez, how can they blame gamez? This is setting a precedent for more such claims!

Oh wait, this happened before...

The thing is this:

If they blame the parents - they face a serious reality of getting their asses sued for defamation of character. However (comma) if they blame tv-games, they are safe AND it draws more readers.

Someone remind me to kick the next journalist I see in the panty

These twaddling ass wipes cause millions in damages (lost revenue) by writting such pathetic lies...The gaming companies should sue the news paper and journo:mad:

This is always a big load of crap. No one can blame a game for some idiot kid killing someone. The game might have had some influence, but no more influence than the movies he watches, the things he reads, etc.

And even still, the cause of this is not media in any case. Dig a little deeper and the kid will probably be on all sorts of medication and drugs to "help" him.

Remember the stir Manhunt 2 caused before it was released and GTA IV

Yeah..look those are violent games and im sure those games would have some effect on younger children and teens(hence the 18+).
So it is the parents that should be held accountable because they purchase the games for the kids..Stop holding the damn gaming companies accountable for bad parenting!!
