ADSL Line speed anomaly

Yeah, I saw this on Wiki:

Wikipedia said:
Telkom have announced that they are testing speeds of up to 12Mbs. They are releasing speeds of 8mbs in April/May 2010 (4mbs subscribers will be upgraded free of charge), upload speeds will be 800Kbs and download 8mbs and the 12mbs will be rolling out after the soccer world cup. 384k will also be upgrading to 512k and 512k to 1mb. The same fees apply. This is to ensure that South Africa will get next generation high speed internet.

Eh, not as fast as some of the speeds in the US...They have 12Mb/s apparantly...

Life is hard when you parents are technological cheapskates lol...

Lol, my mom is mildly hopeless when it comes to these sort of things, so she was like - I'm getting a 4MB/s line with 5Gigs cap and you're going to be the one to manage and fix it. I was like,"Whoo!" :D

You are very lucky :)

384k->512k....has that been confirmed?

I sure hope not lol, 1 meg would be decent. Or a better pricing model. 512k users are being ripped off right now.

I am not exactly sure how much I would trust Wiki. Having said that those figures seem somewhat accurate.

I would have rather thought 4Mbps -> (8Mbps - 10Mbps) + 512kbps -> 4Mbps and 384kbps -> 1Mbps.

but maybe that is being hopeful for lower end users.

I know that some 384kbps users are currently being bumped to 4Mbps in certain areas as part of Telkoms testing.

12 MB.....

U would pay like R2500 a month for 3 gig of that,at such a speed :eek:

And I was so exited about getting my 4M uncapped from Mweb :(

12 Mb/s is what the rest of the world is on, it's basically ADSL 2/2+ network they're testing out which will be slightly more expensive in the beginning, yet will drop down. But if the 4Mb/s people get an upgrade for free...:D

But I am getting it from MWEB so no UPGRADE for ME :mad:

Telskum :(

Actually, we've had quite a nice experience from them...however, I heard there were plans in the works to allow free/low rate switching of data between all of SA's networks, so that overloaded ones could go onto less used ones, etc.

Now why dont they have an uncapped thing?

PS: Do u know if Americans have uncapped 12mbs?

Yeah, they probably do. I know you pay like $50 a month and you get 4Mb/s uncapped, so I'm not to sure what the pricing is for 12Mb/s uncapped, but I have talked to ppl in IRC who had 12Mb/s uncapped.
