Synthetic benchmarks rarely tell the whole story!

Oh and by the way if we are going to use single minded benchmarks why bother.

Rather look at this value proposistion review from Tech Report, AMD is right up there with Intel when it comes to value vs performance!

Be carefull with Tom's they sometimes don't evaluate their reviews very well and have some bias.

Why the AMD defence? Well I use Intel and it is a great chip but I would go for AMD any day at the moment, the Phenom II is a great CPU and the AM2/3 platform is much better for future upgrades at the moment, Intel nailed me with the death of the LGA775 socket!
 
These synthetic benchmarks mean nothing for gaming. Your pc can not take advantage of the extra two cores of a quad core.

The are cenarios where the extra cores help, Supreme Commander, World in Conflict and SLi gaming
 
Oh please...single minded intel fanboi's!!
Amd produces some awsome cpu's at really good prices.
Bang for buck = AMD FTW!!
