MemTest on Ram

On this spare machine I have I got 2x 1GB DDR2 667 sticks.

When doing something with the machine.. loading into windows, installing windows etc it blue screens. I went ahead and did a memory test. It fails the test.

When I run each stick by itself it passes the test perfectly. Ran the one last night from midnight till 9AM this morning. 24 completions of the test.

The second one ive been testing now for the past 3 hours and still happy.

If I run them together they fail within 20 minutes.

Any suggestions of what is happening here.

I had this issue once where two different brands of RAM refused to play nicely together. Only solution in that case is to swap one of the sticks.

Have you fiddled with your RAM timings at all?

Indeed you are correct because recently when I got my Asus P5Q I found the same problem when it came to memory and i sat there swopping memory modules around and sure enough it actually worked. I checked on the interweb and saw that this is a regular problem with mainly Asus and Gigabyte boards but nothing serious though

you tried swapping the sticks around ie stick A in slot 2, and stick B in slot 1 for example?

I have tried both ram modules in Slot 0 and Slot 1 (the motherboard has two slots). They both test perfectly. I did 10 passes (Approx 4 hours) per stick in each module and its fine.

The second they are both present within that 20 minute period it fails and starts to list errors.

What was your solution in the end?

they are both the same brand of memory. Have not messed with any timing at all no.

I must just check what frequencies they are actally running at. The system says they are going at 333Mhz (DDR667) - I presume that is bus clock at 100% correct.

Swopping modules in the end worked like a charm :) and it was just last month that i got the board so it was fairly recent...
