This just in...

LOTROâ„¢ will become free-to-play from September 2010!

Existing subscribers can become premium members and lifetime subscribers become VIP members earning more points to purchace in-game items etc.

Not sure if this is a good or a bad thing, but it'll get a much bigger player base now I'm sure.

If you're a free player, you're very limited and to be on equal playing field with VIP members you have to buy a whole bunch of stuff.

EDIT: IT seems points used to buy extra stuff can either be bought or earned in game.

Yeah I saw that now, content seems on par with the premium/VIP, except for the slots and the quest packs.
Been meaning to give this a go for ages

Funny how this always happens just after u buy a life time sub.

Still its good news, I wont be trying it out in September coz ill be too busy (read Broke) playing Halo Reach. :p

I'm actually really enjoying it compared to WoW. Characters are much more diverse. Especially the way you set your character up.

It definitely appeals more me to personally than WoW does.
Already blew my gaming budget this month though :p

You can grab the client from one of the guys on here and get the disks + OEM code from IC for R60 + 45 days free play.
 
I'm in Selborne.

The worst it is has been so far is when it was 12 degrees C on Monday morning.
Not so bad, and nothing a walk to work doesn't fix.

You get special items with the R60 package since it's the gold edition. Plus it's another 3 months before it becomes free. By that time you can be lvl 50 already AND you get 5 character slots vs 1 for free play.

Free play is VERY limited.
