Some Fcuker broke into my car 2day , stole my mp3 player and sunglasses. The car was parked in a secure parking in the CBD that is patroled by security guards and the cbd is full of cops !! yet my stuff got stolen (apparently you pay to park at your own risk).

I feel sorry for all the people that are going to get robbed and mugged at the world cup because crime is a very big problem in this friggin country.

Ouch man - sorry to hear.... couldn't agree more with your last statement.
I checked on the news they've already stolen from tourists at ATMs in Cape Town

what really pissd me off was that i still had to pay for my parking even though my car was broken into on their watch !

Sorry man. It sucks that we the people who live by the law and end up fucked because of it.

I once returned to my car after a night out in Cape Town to discover it had been rear-ended and smashed up in my absence. The car guard just stood there with his hand held out for cash.

The same thing happend to me,and the stupid guard still wanted to help unpack the ''stuff that I bought''

Hahaha ... I have a feeling the only people who are really going to benefit from the SWC are those that spend their time partaking in the more shady activities of society.

And look ... hasn't even started yet and we already had our first stampede - 15 injured. Our hardened, World-Cup-Ready police force couldn't control the crowd. Viva SA!! We are ready!!! (including those people with the upside down flags  )

Sack dude, I'm sorry to hear that. :(

I had the "fortune" of catching 2 blacks in the process of stealing my mom's car one morning at 2am. They were already halfway down the road struggling to start it. The one ran away...the other one was not quite so lucky. I don't do MMA like some of the lads on here, but there are some advantages to weighing 100kgs. Let's just say it wasn't his lucky night. ;)

Yeah that really sucks dude sorry to hear that.

It sounds really pathetic but thats why I never leave any valuables in my car. I have a Tazz and it gets broken into so many times... lol yeah... Viva South Africa...

Should have taken pictures
Should have done wresling...

This is gonna be the best world cup ever, no crime, and everything is gonna run so smooth...*cough* BS *cough*

Damn man! Sorry to hear! Car guards are bloody useless and they don't give a crap either if your car is broken into...all they are interested in is your money. I too have had my car broken into after it was apparently 'watched' and 'guarded' by the mister who probably stole the yellow car gaurd uniform tthingy that he wore.

Yup they love Tazz's don't they... had my handbrake borked, gearbox, windows, immobilizer screwed.. god knows WTF the dude was trying to do.
Another reason why I have no worries in telling "car guards" to go fck themselves.

I was actually in Cape Town one night ... stood and watched as a car guard was directing someone - backed his Ford Meteor into an Audi A4 ...

Guy looked out his window, pulled off and drove away - as it so happens he ripped the Audi's bumper off while doing this - all the while the car guard stands there with his finger up his @ss and does nothing. Just waits for the next guy to come and park.

I really don't think it's going to be as big a deal as people think. Thousands upon thousands more policeman than usual are being deployed, not to mention the military and private security companies. Chances are SA will be the safest place on earth to be in a few days time :D

Really? So the fact that I can now hop onto a safe and efficient bus in Cape Town because of the World Cup isn't a benefit? ;) Or the fact that the central station is now actually a pleasing environment instead of filthy. Not to mention the amazing urban park we can now stroll in around the stadium in Greenpoint, or the beautiful now airport terminal 15 minutes down the N2.

I can go on forever :)

The BRT bus system was planned originally - and has nothing to do with the World Cup. The same applies to the airport - they would have been upgraded in due course anyway - the timing just happens to coincide. The same for the roadworks - nothing to do with the World Cup - traffic has been a problem for years, and would only be getting worse.

And how long do you believe the station and park are going to stay clean and pleasant?

There was a shootout in the town center just yesterday. Kickoff is in three day's time. Safety my backside.

That sucks man!! I once had my car broken into (stole CD player), parked right next to the booth where you pay to exit.

But yes, crime in this $h1thole is frikkin out of control. My previous flat I lived in they broke into the place every January for 3 years straight. The last time they stole some small tech stuff, but left the xbox. So when I decided to go to the police station the fckrs came back and took the xbox also. I was away for an hour!! So it came down to having been someone in the complex...but as usual the useless landlord did not want to make trouble....so I left...the total amount of stuff stolen the last instance was enough in value for me to pay me rent for a YEAR!! And on top of that the insurer refused to settle my claim 'cos of the stupid policeforce confusing the last break-in with a previous one.

Oh, and about car guards, i offer this little piece:

Car guards. We see them everywhere nowadays.

You pop into a store for 5 mins to pick up some bread and cigarettes and upon returning to your car, there they are.

But often it starts even before that. It's a busy morning, and the parking area is packed. You see another car pulling out of a spot and make your way over to the soon-to-be-available parking spot, indicator blinking, and while waiting, one of them pops out, waving arms and indicating that the parking spot you are waiting for, will be available shortly. Even after the previous occupant of the spot has left it open for you to use, he/she will still continue pointing out the fact that the spot that you've been waiting for, is available now.

So you park, and upon getting out of your car and making your way to the shop, he/she just says something to the tune of "Hi sir". Nothing more. They just greet you. And being polite, I usually greet back. But this is apparently code for something else.

So you buy your stuff and make your way back to the car. He is nowhere to be seen but as soon as you start your engine, you see his reflection on the rearview mirror. Uhm ok. But this time around he is trying to help you drive. Arms waiving stop and go signals.

Then, the final farewell usually accompanied by an exchange of money in most cases. In mine, none.

Now, this may come across as rude to not pay the guy for his effort. Look, I fully support job creation and all that stuff but the fact that I greeted you does not mean I will give you money or have entered into any kind of verbal contract where your service of looking after my car will be exchanged for cash.

My reasoning is twofold:
1) I never carry cash with me. It has pro's and cons but I just dont. Sadly, most of the time not even the elusive R5 coin.
2) By greeting someone you cannot really expect much. I greet a number of people every day and that doesn't insinuate anything, for instance, that money will change hands. By the way, "good morning Boss". lol

And yes, I can see that you are wearing a branded reflective vest that indicates that you are a car guard. But, if you expect me to pay you, ASK if you can look after my car in exchange for a fee.

Some months ago at a late night party someone hit-and-run my car. Upon asking the guard if he got any of the details of the car (ie registration number, make, model), he didnt. However the damage to my car was R4k.
Shortly after that I had to make a trip to Nelspruit. The damage was still unfixed. I parked at one of the Nelspruit malls. Two guards approached me and I figured to run a little experiment.
Upon returning to my car I drew both of their attention to the dent in my door (that has been there for a while but they didnt know). "Eish". I milked it a bit and asked what car hit my car and the like. Obviously they couldn't give answers but if they were paying attention when I stopped there they would've noticed that the door was dented to begin with.

I've also seen a number of bumper bashings due to the guard's wrongful instruction to reverse...funny as hell since the two drivers then argue with the guard standing aside.....it was the guard's fault to begin with!!! LOL

Oh, and dont get me going about the carwashers at major malls now. Yes, I know my car is dirty. But, if you're stuck on the R55 every day with taxis driving on the gravel dusting your car daily, maybe you'd think twice before washing it too...
