Hi Guys

So at long last I got myself a decent machine capable of playing just about any game out there :o Not the best but it will do.

So let me know what games you guys are planning to use for competitions going forward so I can stock up :D

O and I have to also say that 9600GT cards = AWESOME ! :o
 
The 9600 does look like a very nice card. I have been playing Dawn of War II, its awesome!

But what is your preferred genre, besides WoW?
 
FPS :D

I love it, I have had BF2 now for ages but could never play it. I played it for the first time this weekend :) So should I go and get myself CoD4 ? Seems like the competitions Tinman is running is mainly CoD4. Is there any plans of creating a gaming server for the users on this forum ? And if so, what games ?

Good luck trying to find yourself a copy of CoD4. Everyone seems to be out of stock... don't think anyone has come right with getting one recently. But if you can, a very good game and I am sure Tinman will hook us up with some more comps soon for it.

As far as MyGaming having its own gaming server, not sure, but so far we have been using iGaming :)

Cool,

So CoD4 is a must get then. Wasn't there a newer CoD ? At war or something, has it been released yet ?

COD4 Modern Warfare is a present day military siege and is probably the single most riveting FPS out there. Despite it's ridiculously short campaign, you will be utterly mesmerized by it! It was released in Nov 07.

COD5 - World At War went back to the WWII genre and has made a splendid job of it, even though others might disagree. It was released in Nov 08.

I'm not a WWII fanboy, but I did thoroughly enjoy the Medal of Honors, COD1, 2 and now this one. If you enjoyed watching "Band of Brothers", you'll love it despite what others think...

... besides, I rate my WWII games by the *ching* sound the M1-garand makes.

CoD4 and CoD5, which of these are the busiest on the SGS/SAIX servers ?
I would assume CoD4? Thus is the reason I want it. :p

I would only imagine COD4, as they had a thing going on a while back trying to compare the two where COD4 came out on tops.

Having said that, there are 2 (sometimes 3) 64 player servers constantly running for Battlefield2. Still a large fan base for this one & frankly much easier to get into if you're new in online FPS. After 2 years of BF2, I was absolutely annihilated on the COD4 smaller maps where there weren't any real squads etc.

BF2's weapons are also much more balanced ... anyone above a sergeant's rank pretty much has the same weapons - even then the upgrades aren't always better.

The BF2 servers are:

196.4.79.20 - Flight Server (Large open maps with manned jets, choppers, artillery, all kinds of ground armor/transport)

196.4.79.28 - Urban II, this one hosts 44 players on a 64 player map and only has 1 chopper per team and even then only in half the maps, the rest is made up with tanks, buggies, jeeps, apc, etc.

196.4.79.31 - Urban I, This is an I/O map (Infantry Only) ... no vehicles or artillery. Plane Jane running and shooting on large 64 player maps. If you ever wanted to get your knife badge, this is the place!

I like BF2, been playing it since Saturday. I suck at it though but it's awesome fun.

Dislikes:

The maps are huge.
People raping you without even being hit once (Headshot) from miles away using normal Asualt weapons.
The vehicles, I hate that.

I used to love America's Army. Small maps, no vehicles and the shots are actually more reliable. The odds of you being killed with a single shot is minimal unless a sniper got you.

I hope CoD4 is more like America's Army.
 
I still have my copy of COD4 stored away somewhere...

Antithesis, if you haven't played it yet and pinky swear not to make an online acc. with the serial I'll drop it off at Trooper's place for you to give a go.
 
Ooooh Voicy - I'll do that with pleasure! Seksi. Then when I get paid I need to find a copy somewhere.

I'm low on games at the moment :( (I have war3 on my laptop)

That's just the thing - BF2 is a bit slower and slightly more strategic. It's all about flag ownership.

The fact that the maps are big, gives you a chance to walk around without being shot straight after spawning - unless ofcourse you spawn in a highly contested area.

The vehicles should make arriving at destinations faster. It's perhaps somewhat confusing if you play it by yourself instead of being in a squad where you have medics / squad leader to spawn on etc.

I prefer the tactical play of flanking the enemy and stealing bases behind their lines. But with all the different playable classes it will take you a little while to find your niche.
