What are the best internet speeds for gaming online? Who do you go to to get the best speeds? I know faster is better but which service provider do i go to for the best value for money? I dont want kak lag and i want very low ping. Who should i go to?

You not going for Speed for say on online gaming, what u needing is a better ping, for argument sake, a 384k unshaped account will absolutely pawn a 4mb shaped account.

Your best bet go for something that is unshaped 24/7. And as stated above line speed dont matter.

Also depends on where you lives so if you want the absolutely best you going to have to move closer to the servers so to speak. But yeah unshaped and a tier 1 provider is your best bet for the lowest ping.

Gaming = DSL.

Now cap is the other issue:
It depends on the game. Games like HON and Call of Duty have servers in South Africa so shaped and unshapped will not give you any advantage. 384 does give a higher ping then 512 and 4mb BUT it does not make a difference however if someone else is using the internet you can get ping spikes with the smaller lines.
If you are in Jo'burg don't go with Web africa as their servers are in Cape Town but otherwise it doesn't matter that you ISP is in Jo'burg as all gaming servers are there anyway.
Can't say you ping matter that much. Anything over 100ms and you are unlikely to notice a difference. For example the average persons reaction rate it 300ms so 20ping vs 60 is not a major issue.

I live in PTA and I get a 80ping with a Mweb 4mb uncapped account

So like crzwaco said, where u live makes a big part of your speed

Your main concern should be the ISP you select. As CrzWaco said, you preferably should go for a tier 1 network. I would also stay away from these "uncapped" specials, the performance tends to be slightly better than poor.

My brother and I both play BC2 on the same 384k shaped line (MWEB Uncapped) and today we were getting around 150 pings each. Make of that what you will.

512 line we get the same also about 120 ping playing COD4
4Meg line 3 of us playing COD4 100-120 Ping.

I get 18-20 Ping on COD4 and COD5 on SGS servers, and 25-40 on Igame COD4. Team Fortress 2 and HL2DM 18-25 Ping.

WE Once loaded 6 guyz playing cod4 promod on my line and no pings surpassed 50 on SGS :)

4MB Shaped Account in PTA. Rather close to the exchange though, makes a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference :)

Which ISP you with Mappie?

Good to know...
You Don't need super speed internet to get low latency and not sure how resolution even comes into it.

thats a very decent Ping, From Durban, i was getting around 80-90 pings on the SGS servers with a 384k line - still very much playable!

I also get a good ping on COD4,its about 24-40 :D
But I still think it is where u live and not the service provider :/

Web Africa is possible the worst bandwidth to get for local gaming so stay away from that IMO

Well, I haven't really tried for LOCAL gaming per-se, but for international gaming (MMO's and such) WebAfrica, is by far the best.
Only with WebAfrica can a shaped account give you 350ms to a server in Europe.

Okay well local wise they put their servers in Cape Town which is fine for people in Cape Town but still doesn't advantage them as servers are in Jo'burg so has to make the trip up there anyway but for people in Jo'burg the packets have to go to Cape Town and back just to get to a server in Jo'burg. However that only adds about 40ms to the ping BUT they have a shockingly poor link between Jo'burg and Cape Town so you can get over 300 ping most days. That has been my experience with them which is actually disgusting as you are actually paying for what you use as they say they won't do uncapped so they can keep service levels high.
