Star Wars: The Old Republic Preview

Looks very cool. I expect more classes and races to be revealed upon release and then of course more could be added with expansions in the future.

I'm a Star Wars fanatic so it is a given I am going to be playing this when it gets released.

bah i'm challenged to put that to the test young padawan. /gets out sith sword.

I love my Star Wars, but somehow I don't see anything ever taking over from WoW despite the fact that you need to pay to play each month. Personally, I won't play this, but then again, I don't play any of these genre games. Tried Guild Wars and WoW and no thanks.

I think WoW is simply too firmly entrenched and too many people have put in far too much time to give it up for The Old Republic. I'm not saying it won't have a following as well, or that some WoW people won't change games, but I can't imagine it surpassing WoW.

There is only one thing geeks globally go more gagga than WOW and thats Star Wars. If this is done corrdctly, and i think it will be, it certainly has the potential to give wow a good run for its money.

It looks very appealing thus far and i can't wait to get my mits on it.

i had enough of wow forever :D. only "mmo" i miss was the waterdeep module i used to play on saix, there is also UO...

...i'd give kotor mmo a try any day, it looks to be nice though we need moar of this non elf-n-orc type over too much fanatsy. however rift is going to blow them socks off, well i hope so :D

fuck if anything i would love to be able to play some tabula rasa :(

This looks awesome, but its going to be flooded with Jedi and sith, just like galaxies, when they stopped Jedi being a prestige class and made them into a starting class :(

I also see this happening, since 8/10 geeks want to be a Jedi or Sith. Ill be honest i'd like to play Jedi as one of my first classes.

who wouldn't? but frankly it would be alot more awesome if it was a prestige class, like KotOR 1 for example

True, but if you look at the Star Wars mythology Jedi's where trained from young ages. Remember Yoda did not want to train Anikin in Ep01 saying that he was too old. Thus it wouldn't be true to the source material and might piss off some of the more... zealous fanboys.

In both KOTOR's the player was a jedi all along having had his memory erased so eventually regaining powers of a jedi kind was inevitable. In the MMO it would be rather lame and not all that good for the narrative if everybody was an "important" jedi who's memory had been wiped. Don't you think?

Agreed. That is the reason but knowing Bioware im sure Jedi or Sith isn't going to be super powerful from the get go. I can only trust that they have, and are still, giving alot of though to balancing the classes and the levels.

If they are able to make the low level Jedi's suitably weak and needing alot of time to bring it up to the level of "scary" powerful, that could work. Also i remeber Bioware saying that classes like the Bounty Hunter could be built to be an Anti-jedi class or something along that sort.

Unfortunatly im not THAT versed in star wars mythos. Reasonably but I have not idea who admiral thrawn is.

lol, some blue dude with red eyes that uses this animal to "suck" away luke's force powers so he would be weak. the animal itself afaik creates a 1 meter field or more maybe that totally takes away any force powers insides it's bubble.

Sounds like a bit a authors fiction. but as I said I am not THAT versed in the mythos but as I understood force powers it is generated by the medichlorines in the whielders blood but i guess since its fiction you can spin it anyway you want.

I have faith in Bioware that the differnt classes will be well balanced.

or maybe like aion where before you create a character a 50/50 % is done to see if you can do light or dark...

But if they can balance it out.... then it could work, the smart players would choose bounty hunters and etc.
