New Toys!

ja the 460's are akin to the 6600GT's and 8800GT's, massive performance for their price point, even more so in SLI

yes man. i am making a trip from Cape Town. haha. But i have to go there in any case. So the cards are gonna cost me R1400 (for ticket to Jo'burg) and the cost of the cards. Haha. I am really looking forward to my first SLI setup now. Anything special i need to know with that setup?

I didn't check the date on your first post :P

I have a GTX280 now and makes the capacitors on my PSU scream like 3 year old girls. Getting sick and tired of it now a days... So if the 460's are quiet enough i'l definitely upgrade.

Use you GTX280 for dedicated physx. Will be a super cool setup.

well my experience with sli is as follows.

uninstall all gpu drivers, run driver cleaner if needed, install both cards, hook up sli bridge, power on, install drivers then enable sli from nvidia control panel.

that's how did it, dunno if things changed recently

also a 280 for physx is overkill...

lulz the gt210 never even featured.

it's a rebranded 9500 if i am not mistaken with dx10.1 added. not even good entry level card for gaming

lol, ok that sucks, so basically it is a piece of shit card.
I bben working on my laptop for the past couple of years and decided to get a desktop.
guess i need to get a new card then. meh

How do GTX460's in SLI compared to 2 GTX280's in SLI ? I'm curious. Except for the DX11 part - I don't know if I need to upgrade yet, these GTX280's are running REALLY well.

I did post some links to that effect. Where they compare a whole bunch of cards in SLI/crossfire etc. In some cases the GTX460 in SLI is faster that 2x 5870's in crossfire. These cards are very good!

wow! i heard the sli yield on GTX 460's is close to 98% don't know how true that is though...
this card is definitely the best for a dual card setup at the moment!

If you guys (Frank007 and Tank) can run benchies in FarCry2 or Crysis or even Merto2033 at the same settings that would be a very interesting read IMO

I will do that! I am only going to pretoria in anothe month about. But when i get there i will but the cards and put them in when i am back here in Cape Town. I have all those games so i could do it for you! I would also like to do some benchies again now! I have not done a bench with my SSDs in my machine yet either. I will wait till i get the cards before i do though!

Here is a nice review that you can have a look at in SLI:

I don't know so much about SLI and crossfire setups. The performance gain for twice the price isn't justified to me. It's not like you get twice the performance. SO why not rather buy one bigass card rather?

it seems that different reviews are revealing different results in the "GTX460 vs HD5850" battle. i'm reconsidering my position on the HD5850 as my card of choice! maybe if i post my current specs (cpu etc.) then you guys can help me come to a decision.
