The 10 best RPGS

Fable 1 & The Witcher definitely deserved mention - as did KOTOR2 (if even as a post script to KOTOR1). The dungeon siege series was also much more enjoyable than some on that list.

It might have become an MMO cash cow, but there is no denying that WoW took gaming addiction to a new level. The exciting gameplay, vast story, and humongous scope of the human-player filled game world would set the genre benchmark for years to come.

Except for the little fact that WOW had NO story. You could go from lvl1-80 without needing to do a single quest or character growth. I felt that sucked quite a bit. People raced through to end game without having any feel for the game. Numerous areas were completely undiscovered by so many.
 
Demon's Souls should have been mentioned..Insane online gameplay, k@k hard which makes every kill that much more rewarding..
 
The first Deus Ex? I know it was a FPS, but there was obviously a strong RPG element as well. Well, I think so anyway.
 
just shows that looking at only ratings can miss out on some gems!

While I understand that the list is the top 10 rated RPG's, by no means do I think those are the top 10 best RPG's. Hell, I don't even consider Mass Effect 2 an RPG. Don't get me wrong, it was a brilliant game, but it sure as hell ain't no RPG. Any top 10 best RPG list is a fail if both the Witcher and Demon's Souls do not feature on said list IMO. Also, that list needs Neverwinter Nights.
 
Good list, but of course it's missing a few of those gems like FFVII, Vagrant Story, Dark Chronicle, Rogue Galaxy... Maybe there should be a Top 10 Best Underdog RPG's.

I also believe Deus Ex should be considered an RPG (and put up as one of the best) because when you look at it and Fallout 3 the RPG elements are very similar and Fallout 3 is an RPG.
 
Long live Mass Effect 2! What a legend game. That was a good example of what can be achieved when a developer simply improves and corrects the prequel. Mass Effect was good... Mass Effect 2 was awesome.
 
It's odd, I own and have played 99% of what is on the list, as well as the readers suggestions :p

I am a total RPG nut!

Personally I think all these "Top Lists" are flawed. Personally while I loved Mass Effect 2, I found it a weak RPG and a great 3rd person action game. Oh well, as long as I get to play them all I am happy.
