Gtx 460 sli beast

Sigh. These two GTX280's of mine are performing so awesomely that it makes upgrading to anything LESS than a pair of GTX480's seem silly. Guess I'll have to wait for the GTX480's to drop in price, but I need to sort out my CPU first - dual core is OVER.

I agree with Neo,as soon as the prices drop a bit I am sticking another gtx480 in my machine!!!That should be fun!!

And yes Dual Core is definately OVER,especially if you are planning to run SLI Gtx 480's!!Dont realy feel like changing my PSU again, but will definately have to for SLI.

Cheers

2 grand is cheap enough??

Cheapest I've seen is r2100 am I correct? Yea I guess it's just compared to $200 it's such a steep markup. But that's just the thing with South African hardware. I think it's a really really great card, no doubt. In SC2 benchmarks it closes in on a 470 for like 2/3rds the price.

Dude it's my golden rule when selling PC's to anyone: NEVER save money on the case or the PSU. Go BIG on those 2 components and they will last you for YEARS.

I bought my 1000Watt Enermax Galaxy DXX years ago, it was expensive, but I've never had to buy another PSU since....even with my planned 6core, GTX480 SLi planned setup. :D (speaking of next year's bonus already lol)

Computersonly have the GTX460's at 1999 each, and that's retail pricing. My supplier quoted me R1950 per card.

I have a very incremental upgrade path. I buy for my current requirements and sell->upgrade when I need to go bigger. I never lose money on it so it works nicely. No need to splash out on mega-psu imo - 750w should do you for any foreseeable future upgrade.

after i get the 460's i'm sorted on upgrades til my complete system overhaul circa 2014/15

lol I love the "planned routes" we have to upgrading our PCs. Some businesses don't even run their company as well-planned as we do our PC upgrades. (damn - that was a difficult sentence???)

So true, so true.

a single 460 is a massive bump up from a 4850 (current card) according to benchmarks. 2 will be freakin insane!

Hey Tank, hope you enjoy those babies!!I think you might need to bump your Phenom up to 3.6 or 3.8 to avoid a bottleneck though. My I7 at stock speeds was holding my Gtx480 back by quite a bit!!
Have fun!!!

Cheers
