Starcraft 2 - What are your thoughts for those of you who have played it already?

dude. different people like different games. You telling me you like all games regardless?

I'm a SC2 fanboy at the moment - don't be so serious!

So how long will it take to get there? Did you ask? My mate got one of those Inno3D's like yours he says its awesome! It overclocks more than the 1gb.

I was chatting to one of my mates who loves his SC and he had some interesting points.

1. 20 years and $100 million and all they could come up with is a DX 9 game??? So your new GTX460 means nothing for this game.
2. No LAN support and you must be online even for single player.
3. Only one campaign for single for single player on one race.
4. Online competitive play lasts about 6-7 minutes between top ranks.

Some interesting points he made. To be fair I was never into SC in any big way, but these kind of comments would make me think twice about spending R500+ for a PC game.

Activision debunked this the did not spend $100 million dollars on this game!

Do we really need LAN? The netcode is just that good

A very long campaign though and so many game modes

Actually the match making is brilliant so you should be playing people your own level

They have put some serious detail in this game and everything works very fluidly

Dont think you have to put too much thought into SC2 only thought would be if RTS is your type of game?

As I said, these are comments from a mate of mine, not my views, as I haven't played it myself.

Ok, so they didn't spend that much, but the DX9 thing if true, is still a valid point.

The LAN thing is needed, because not everyone has broadband/internet so it can be annoying if you just want to have a local LAN with a few mates on a Friday evening or something. Just look at Modern Warfare 2 failure regarding this. But I also realise that LANs are becoming something of the past (mostly due to games not supporting local LAN), which is sad because it is fun to get a bunch together and jam some games without having to have an internet connection.

The campaign thing, like I said, I haven't played it, so I won't comment on that.

The match-up thing might be accurate in terms of skill level, but still, and this is what I really don't like about it is that the game can be over in 6 minutes if someone rushes you.

I'm not raging against the game, merely pointing out what someone else saw to be flaws.

Chill dude I didnt think you were raging I just put up some counter points :)

Another point MW2 wasnt a failure it was probably the ost successful game of all time.

However I concede I wouldnt mind LAN myself. If you get the game you will see how much thought went into the game and all the intergrated functionality. I also see the Starcraft2.com website has just changes and one can log in with your battlenet details and see all your achievments, Stats and Friends. (So Cool) I must also say the Facebook implementation was pure WIN. I put in my details next thing friends I hadnt chatted to for years are added as my friends in SC2. Very Very Cool.

No update from Kalahari on my side :( I may only receive mine next Monday...

A few of my mates have theirs and I am becoming impatient. Must play now!

Ill agree and disagree with you Den. Yes i would like pure LAN functions for games still but then again having said that i couldnt care anymore if a game doesn't have a pure LAN function. MW2 has a LAN function you just need to be on steam which i can see is a bit of a problem for some people but why on this green earth would you buy MW2 if you have no intention of playing it online. Having said that the same principle doesnt apply for Starcraft 2 as there are loads to do for singleplayer stuff and being a strategy game you can always just do skirmishes.

My opinion is that a pure LAN function didn't fit into Blizzard's battle.net plans and we all know blizzard wont put something in if it even just hints at causing a imbalance. All in all a LAN function would have been nice but im enjoying the battle.net stuff a lot even though im being raped most of the time.

hey, i'm not trying to nit-pick, but it's not 20 years, development started in 2003, so it's 7 years. Still long ass development though LOL

Loving the game, the polish, the story, and especially the detail that got put in.
Running through the SP campaigns first, then will try my hand at mp.

Having a smooth sailing experience and savouring every little thing.
