You people, making fun of the hallowed Stalker, you all lack freshness. You are hereby filed under 'stale bread samples'. And you, Missis Alexis, there is something wrong with your spelling. Or your brain.

Seriously though, after savouring the delectable atmospheric juices of Metro 2033 (aka The Closest Thing to Stalker In Years), the news of an official Stalker sequel has made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Could it be love at not even a single screenshot sighted?

Stabularasa, multi-platform could potentially be a problem (a la Deus Ex Invisible War), but hopefully the venerated GSC folks will stay true to the X-Ray heritage. I'm sure they will have figured out a cure for Consolitis by now, it all just depends on whether or not the vaccine is government controlled.

By that logic, this should be Stalker 4. But no, here's how it works, my dear:

1. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
2. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
3. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
4. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2

So you see, there never was a true Stalker sequel, which is why the new game will be S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. However, I do think they might slap some kind of subtitle onto that before it's released. Any questions?

Hence my point by point explanation earlier.

Oh, and they weren't expansions; just like Splinter Cell: Conviction wasn't an expansion of Splinter Cell: Double Agent. More examples needed?

Release Date... 2012... Call me when we are 6 months from release with a Trailer, gameplay vids and some screenies to show for it.

Anyway, with all the crap talking out the way..

Metro 2033 was awesome and so was the first STALKER game. I rate this is going to be something new and interesting and I can't wait to get it :D

Metro 2033 was alot of things awesome not being one of them, good... yes, avarage... yes but over all disapointing and like S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Pripyat (spelling), wholy full of missed opportunities.

Each to their own..

The thing I loved about it was the atmosphere.. Something I haven't seen in games for a long time.. There was also a sense of adventure and overall I loved it. Definitely one of the games I bought that was worth the money and time.

I'll give it "atmosphere", which was brilliantly done. But that can only cover up bad combat and pretty much useless stealth mechanics for so long. Good ideas, badly executed.
As for STALKER, they failed to address the problems plaguing the whole series, twice in row, so my hopes for number 2 aren't high at all.

Ok, so basically you like open world games right? Me too, but I take games for what they are. Metro did well for what it was. It's not a STALKER game, so don't try to play it as one :D

Btw, nice blog entry :)

Like Murph said Metro could, and this is key, COULD have been brilliant but all the atmosphere in the multiverse isn't going to make up for poor design and buggy gameplay. The stealth was pathetic, even more so considering that they force it on the player its not the players choice. The gun play was medicore at best and the story telling fell far short of what it should have been.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC & CS was unique in the sense that they had an odd, ghost in the machine type, feel to it. CoP was abysmal having sacrificed what made the game great in order to appeal to a wider audience. Similarly this "S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2" could very easily fall into the same trap considering its aiming for multiplatform. GSC will have to bring the rain if they dont want to be laughed out of the console club, since games have to be in a better state for MS or Sony to allow it on their platforms. No half gig patches to fix what should not have been broken in the first place.

This is why Im saying I'll reserve judgement for closer to release, Rage annouched in 2007 with a few screenshots, Bioshock Infinite was annouched with a trailer and screens and they are both only out in 2012, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 has ney a screen shot to its name.
