Age of Empires Online incoming, and its free

Does anyone else get shivers down their spine when they read that Microsoft is doing something for "free"? I can just image the horrible catch that's waiting for consumers....

Interesting. Will see were it goes.

Can't see how they would make it work.

Well the good thing is you don't have to be a part of that catch if you just avoid it :D If they want to have a catch to a free game, they can keep it.

Considering we know next to nothing about the title implying that there "has" to be some sort of catch seems rather daft to me.

As for the general mechanic AOEIII already leant itself to the idea of a MMO. Leveling you home city and builiding up a deck of card you can use to boost game.

This is in all likeley hood a ploy to get more people to use Games For Windows live, Microsoft's own game distrobution platform, since its no doubt less common than Steam. They will also add a micro transaction system similar to that of BattleForge, a similar RTS/MMO/TCG title.

Lets wait and see, either way this is good news AOE is till one of my fav RTS title to date.

Signing up for the beta :) Thanks!

Having an issue downloading Games For Windows Live though...

Does Games for windows Live even work in this Country?

Nope..

You have to create a Gamertag and set the region to US or somewhere where it is supported. I struggled so many hours with that bs..

Apparently region support is coming to RSA though.

You can create a gamertag where ever u want, if ur PC isn't set to UK or some live friendly area it wont work.

The words "MMO" and "free" in the same sentence is normally enough to turn me off, the horrors of item shops are not easily forgotten.

At the moment nope, but since live is coming to SA in the next few months yes, it will.

Guys just clear this up for me what does not work for the windows live? Before I make a fool of myself.

Like we have no Xbox live we have no Games For Windows Live. Since we are getting Xbox Live we are also getting Games For Windows Live. At this time getting Games for Windows Live to work CORRECTLY is a huge pain in the arse. Soon this should no longer be the case.

Its why in games like Batman and Dirt 2 I have to play in offline mode so that I can at least save the games.
