Mecer screens

I want to buy a new LCD screen. Nothing fancy just full HD. I have a sony at the moment but i want something bigger now. I have seen on musteks pricelist that there are Mecer screens there for a very good price. 42" for R5073 = R120.78 p/inch, 47" for R6783 = R144.31p/inch and a 55" for R10203 = R185,50p/inch. I dont think i want the 55". I want a 47" and for that price i dont think i will get better. Has anyone here got a screen like that or that knows where i can see a review. I know it does not have a tuner but i dont need it as i have DSTV HD. Can anyone help. What panels do they use etc. This is only going to be for TV and PS3. I have a 23" samsung LED for my PC. dont need more. Not going for 3D yet either because i am waiting for 3D without glasses. Please could you give some advice. Thanks.

I've had experience with the first 32" Mecer LCD TV's. In my opinion you're not going to get the best picture quality from those monitors because they're very basic panels. There are NO fancy features and thus no tech built-in to those panels to ensure you're getting good color-reproduction or proper contrasts....so they really are BASIC, and when you compare them to a Samsung monitor, you'll see why you're paying less for the Mecer. Still, if what you're after is a very basic monitor just to get the job done, then it's fine.

Personally I'd rather look at a Sony or Samsung. They have some awesome specials these days if you shop around. Mecer screens are okay, but I'd rather spend the extra bucks if possible.

i have no problem spending extra money if it is really gonna be worth it but i dont want to sit with a screen that is just a little better than the mecer. Like i said its only for bluray, PS3 and HD DSTV. I wanna see a sony/samsung next to a mecer and really see the difference. I dont think it will be that much really.

Dude - the Mecer screens are for display purposes - like for presentations or adverts in News Cafe. If you want to watch blu-rays, it's either Sony, Samsung or LG. Come put ANY Mecer monitor next to my Samsung Plasma - I'll show you what my image quality does to the Mecer - here's a clue: "It poops on it".

You should know this by now, in the "image quality" world the saying is VERY true: You get what you pay for. Those Mecers are cheap for a reason.

Ja but all samsung plasmas are only HD ready. The only plasma that is full HD is From Panasonic. You might get 1080i but thats about it.

Uhm - no dude. I have a 63" Samsung Plasma sitting in my living room that would like a word with the dude from Cats. Just from experience, the guys from Cats are very daft - they don't know what they're talking about 95% of the time.

Well then i am only going to get a 40" KDL-40EX400. Its cheap. I want to wait for the glassesless 3D LEDs to come out before i spend really big money. Then i will spend R35000 on a tv. Does anyone here know where i could get a really good special on Sony. I wanna stick with sony cause i have a 7.1 Sony Bravia component surround sound and a PS3. So everything is Sony at the moment. Rectrons prices are really expensive so i am not gonna buy from them. I dont know whether i should go for 100hz either. Not gonna spend more than R10000 at the moment.

I don't know about prices for dealers, but if I wanted the best price on an LCD/Plasma TV I'd go to Dion Wired, get quote from them and then take that to Hirsch's to let them beat the price :)

Oh okay. I will try that then. Just gonna search there website quick for a dealer in Pretoria.

ja. That is where i got the idea for that screen. I just dont know if i want to go for 100Hz now. Is the extra cost worth it?

100Hz television is a bare minimum specification in my book. It's not negotiable. And anyone that tells you it doesn't make a difference is a moron.

I really cant see how 100hz could be R3500 better than a normal 60hz. I have seen 2 screens next to eachother. One was 100hz and the other only 60hz and i cant see the difference. 200hz on the other hand is insane. All three were playing Avatar on Bluray. Cant see the difference only on the 200hz.

LOL - sorry then dude, I can't help you. You seem like one of those people who won't notice a difference in something unless that difference kicks you square in the testes and shouts at your mother. You know what, you'll be fine with that Mecer monitor - hell, I have a feeling it can be black and white and you'd still say it was fine. Go for whatever.

Dude. I said that there is not much difference between the 100 and the 60hz. I can see a difference on the 200hz panel. I was saying that i cant justify the R3500 difference between the 60 and the 100hz. If i were going to make the jump i would jump to the 200hz instead.

I'm an audio and videophile - I've been in numerous discussions about this as well across the web and most, if not all, other fanatics agree that the difference between 60z and 100hz is actually BIGGER than the difference between 60hz and 200hz. Obviously if you have the money and the resources, going for the 200hz would be cool - but it still doesn't change the fact that 100hz is a MASSIVE advantage over 60hz - if you know what you're actually looking at.

Sorry if I sound a bit brash - but you believed a salesman when he told you that plasmas don't go to Full HD resolutions. I would have slapped him in the face for talking such nonsense. He would have also not been able to tell you of the ADVANTAGES of Plasma over LCD either. You also seem a bit stubborn when people give you the actual answers which might not align with your own opinion - in that case - it really doesn't matter what anyone tells you - you're going to do your own thing - however big a mistake it may be.
