/Makes not of this arguments to reffer back to in future.
I think thats the biggest issue facing the world today. Any 2 people can get togther a sqeeze out a baby regardless if they are capable of raising the thing, caring or it or if they of suitable mind to be able to cope with the responsibility of having a child.
I propose a birthing licence.
We've always joked that you need a licence to drive, to own a gun, need to be a certain age to drink alcohol and/or smoke but you can fuck and have kids without a licence! Scary.
Games only makes you question reality. Like is it really possible to set your pee on fire after you drank a lot?

I hear what you're saying and you all make good points. But what really cracks me up is that you guys are saying that it's become a cliche of sorts to say that "video games are to blame". In the same breath you guys are shouting the OLDEST cliche of them all: "We blame the parents".
So you're kind of being a bit hypocritical? The only thing you could say that's possibly more daft is "we blame apartheid".

For every one person who goes a little psyhco from listening to music or playing a game or watching porn or whatever there is a hundred thousand people who do all the same things are perfectly sane and happy.
The problem is that one idiot is responsible for the death of many other people. You are saying they shouldn't regulate ANYTHING as far as I understand your comments. So let's say one person plays constant GTA IV and (that other game where you are a psychopathic killer) Porn also isn't regulated, he also loves to listen to some black metal where the lead singer keeps screaming(not singing) about how fucked up the world is and how a legion should be started and to kill kill kill and death just horrid crap you don't want to hear.. So he is watching rape porn and child porn and just enjoying his life. Now he sees my beautiful wife and 6 year old daughter when they go to buy groceries at the store one Saturday morning. His mind has been influenced so much by all the things he's seen in porn and everything he has done in a virtual world.
He murders and rapes my wife and child. Now as parents we raised our child very responsibly and kept her away from all the shit the world keeps pumping into your little morally degraded head. This is by no means a reflection on me as a parent. He is that one case of a person that is influenced by games, music and pornography, not that they made him do it. This is why you have to regulate these things. I might be a strong minded individual that wants to keep away from these things because I dislike it. You might like it and not do anything, but for that couple of people that will... you have to regulate it.
Absolutely. I do agree with you that some parents will ask for an out right ban on things before considering other possible avenues and that they also do not take responsibility of their actions. Sometimes though, they aren't the only ones at fault.
You could have a 10 year old walk into any gaming store today and buy anything he wishes (gaming centered). I remember as a kid in high school I still made a petition that CNA Brooklyn should be closed down due to the fact that they were willing to sell me a game which I was under the age to buy. The people that should control the sale of the merchandise couldn't care less who is buying it. Police force also won't even break a sweat trying to fine shops that do.
As active as a parent is he can't control what his children do to every extreme measure. When getting home from work would you go onto your sons computer look through all his files, do you check up on all his home work? Some do every once in a while but it is a monumental task to undertake every single day.
As a big lanner in high school I've seen how easy children fool their parents in hiding their porn and certain games. Most of the time the parents are clueless on the inner workings of a computer. Now you might say then they shouldn't get their son a computer. But does every parent know how to build the engine of a car before buying a car themselves?
Society today likes being proud of it's ignorance.
While doing some research I came across this and figured it is relevant to this discussion and specifically regarding this post:

I think if people and specifically internet savvy parents made use of a de-facto set of guidelines for using the internet responsibly and educated not only children but people on how to act responsibly on the internet alot of these kind of issues could be avoided.
