Is it worth it?

The Only time an xbox (classic or slim) scratched discs is if you have it standing upright or it moves while on. I have never had any of my discs scratched. But I know of people who had their boxes standing upright which resulted in scratched discs.

The weird thing is that I never put my X360 upright, it was always flat but it still sratched my games. I think my friend's X360 stands upright, not sure. But even if it does sratch discs only when standing upright, that is a huge design flaw or whatever. I mean nowhere do they state "don't let the console stand upright, it will scratch your games", the console was designed to be able to stand both upright and flat as far as I know, so it shouldn't sractch your games at all.

I have heard of such cases but they where rare. Most times the box was moved while on which results in disc scratching. But yes it was a design flaw. Which they rectified with the slim.

Won't the Xbox over heat if you lay it on it's side though?

Nah, my xbox have always stood on its side with no ill effects. Just put it in a well ventilated area.

In the four and a half years I've owned an Xbox, I've always kept it standing upright. Not a single scratched disc.

I guess I'm just unlucky when it comes to technology: X360 scratched my games, PS3 keeps freezing (getting new HDD this week, hopefully that will sort it out), cellphone deletes music/videos/photos at random and my optical drives in my PC just keep dying on me. Oh, and the LCD monitor I use for my PS3 has a dead pixel, at least that's what I think it is. :p

Lol, I feel your pain. I hate dead pixels!

He said scratched to the point of the game actually being damaged or scratched so badly he couldn't sell it again. Sorry for the confusion. So is this the case?

I have seen it once while shopping for games @ musica when a guy returned his 360 and all his discs had grooves scratched in them and that was caused by the lens being set too close to the disc (manufacturer assembly fault) !

Lol, so its all luck of the draw.
I was thinking that along with the 360 I was going to buy Fable III is it any good? I've never played any game in the series before.

There will be a review in Issue 3 of The Gamer, written by me. It should give you a reasonable idea, maybe try out Fable 2 first.

IE: He won't wanna buy it after reading your review :p

Personally I think it was a great game. Duke get Fable 2 first, you will love it I am sure and can pick it up for next to nothing.

Throwing my 2 cents in here:

The 360 Slim is well worth it in my opinion. I've had the Arcade for a couple of years, but last week decided that I wanted Kinect and an upgrade, so went out and got myself the 250GB console + Kinect bundle and haven't been happier :)

The Slim makes the older 360's look like complete clunkers in comparison. It obviously looks far better, operates much more quietly, has so many vents on it I doubt it'll ever overheat, and the other minor touches such as built in wifi and touch sensitive buttons make it feel like I got more bang for my buck.

I must say I am also loving the slim. So nice to install any game I want without having to first uninstall another game due to space constraints.

It also looks a lot sexier sitting next to my PS3. The white just didn't go. And yay I finally sold my old xbox! :D

Or that :p

or Better yet... Both. :p

Thanks for the tip, I will wait for both and make up my mind. The reviews for this game are extreme opposites which make it hard to make a good decision. Some say its brilliant others that its kak, so which is it? Lol.

I really like your reviews, Fenix. So I'll wait and see what you have to say :) When is it going to be released?
Do you guys try and have a set date to release a new issue?
