Unlock an AMD 6950 to 6970

So I thought this might be of interest to all the owners of the AMD Radeon 6950 card:

It unlocks your card to the 6970 model as AMD have only disabled some cores on the 6950 model. They do this by BIOS locking which can easily be replaced with a BIOS to unlock the extra cards. From what I read on the page you don't need extra cooling as the card is exactly the same as the 6970 - cooling and all.

ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR BIOS BEFORE DOING FLASHING EXPERIMENTS!

Might be useful.

I don't know. I don't think AMD have just locked some cores that can just be unlocked, but do tell us if you are able to do so :)

Its easy enough on the HD6900 series as the cards have a Hardware Dual Bios switch allowing you to change to the "custom" bios or revert to the factory protected one, negating any risk.

Yes, it says so in the article, but I was putting it there as a disclaimer in case anything goes wrong and then no one can blame me. Sorta like "enter at your own risk"
