MyGaming suggestion box

Hi everyone; I like your idea Lycanthrope. The thing is, over on MyBB, the breaking news section is part of the vBulletin forum system. The content management system is separate, and that's where the main articles are managed. Same thing for MyGaming - content management and forum are separate systems.

Trying to integrate the two is a total nightmare and we'll likely wind up deleting the Internet.

Tinman and I are scratching our heads over this comment system as it stands - hopefully we'll come up with a cool solution before too long :)
 
The idea for the new comments section is currently as follows:

Anyone will still be able to comment under an article as a guest. However, these comments will be posted under the username 'Guest'. Also, they will all have to be approved by an admin before they are published.

There will be an option to create a new profile for the front page section. This means that you will be able to secure your desired username. Once you have created your profile, you will be able to post your comments without the approval requirement. If a select user posts posts something distasteful (trolling, racism, personal attacks) they will be warned and banned for one week. If they do this three times, their account will simply be banned.

This is a work in progress, but I'd like to have it up and running next week.

Sadly, there is no way to link forum profiles to the front page section. This would be awesome, but because the front page uses a different system to the forum, it's very messy, and every future update would undoubtedly wreak havoc with the integration.

Yeah, I thought it might've ended up being a nightmare to implement.

Another example that comes to mind is GameSpot--forums, comments, unions, blogs, etc are all linked together (including a post thumbs up/down system) under one account, but that's a bit more complicated to pull off :o

I'm willing to take that risk :D (Brave, aren't I?)

Thing is... if the solution requires someone to register twice for the same site then it acts more as a deterrent than a companionable incentive with a bit of wine, some flowers and chocolates for good measure.

I'm really won over by the Breaking News section on MyBB. I love seeing forum posts beneath the article and with my specific avatar <3

Sounds fair :)

Wouldn't that become a hassle for admins to read through a bunch of comments? I guess that's the price of anonymity >:3

Would that honestly be such a bad thing? :D I think the internet could do with a fresh start - just keep a backup.

In any case, I like Tinny's idea, even though it's a bit of a pain having to log in twice, but the alternative is a broken site if things go wrong (personal experience - it wasn't fun :( )

How about a technology category? or maybe renaming PC gaming hardware and creating sub categories under that? For stuff like cell phones, Ipos, TVs, amps etc?
 
I actually have another suggestion: How about two skins/themes for MyG? One can be the blue and white one and another can be a darker grey/black one?

I'ma no likes teh brights!

What about this as a suggestion and not just let the mods do it instead... it would make everyones lives a lot easier :rolleyes:

Just an idea, use it, don't use it :p

Or lets get a like/dislike button next to people's signatures! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! Tpex will LOVE that! :D:D:p
