Wow. Talk about totalitarianism (don't know what it means I just read it somewhere and wanted to use it). It's all about freedom of information. The US government is smart enough not to outright "cancel" the internet, not that they could in the US even if they wanted, but they have tried in various ways to make it harder to access info, to regulate what people do, etc.
Governments need to back out a bit. I think our current method of ruling is far better than it was in, say, 1500s, but there needs to be less control. That was, basically, Napoleon's gift to the world. After all his wars, the world was scared of fighting, and governments started ruling by "Just let it be". World War I reinstated wars, it reinstated control. I think if all governments, everywhere, back the *!@# out of people's lives, it'll be a much better way to go.
Regulate roads, regulate crime, yes, but other than that let people live their lives, do what they are going to do anyways, despite their retarded controls which only end up penalizing law abiding citizens anyways, and we'll all be a lot happier.
A stupid government could kill everything, and taking INTERNET out of Egypt is not only a sure way to piss off your people, it's a sure way to show that every government everywhere has way too much power.
