How to set up a xbox 360 to play on a pc monitor.

I am not 100% sure on how to do this.

I will have a monitor with a hdmi input. But what I really don't have a clue is how to get the sound to work? The monitor does not have speakers. Actually I have no clue how to set it up.:o

Advice would be great:)

Trying to get ready for mortal kombat.:p

If your monitor doesn't have any speakers than it might be a problem since the sound will be transmitted over the HDMI cable. You should check to see if you monitor has a sound output. If it does then you can just connect speakers to it and you should be fine.

If it doesn't you're going to have to get yourself the special VGA cable to connect to the monitor. That has it's own sound output.

What monitor do you have?
 
Samsung P2770

If that's the one, you're in luck. It has both a 3.5mm jack output (typical small stereo jack for headphones or desktop speakers). Obviously this only gives you stereo sound output. It also has an optical audio out, which will give you surround sound if you have speakers or an amp with an optical audio connection.

Well if it looks like this at the back you should be fine. Just plug your PC speakers in the audio output and you'll have sound.
 
Yea HDMI in the HDMI port.

The for sound plug the green 3.5mm jack from your speakers into the Audio out and sorted
 
Tsar I got the same monitor and set up my Xbox in 5 seconds.
Like Caboose and Toxin says, it's that easy.
The pic Toxin posted is what the back looks like - HDMI from Xbox to HDMI in, speakers 3.5 into the audio out on the monitor. Boom!

Just did not have the monitor with me at the moment. But yeah My buddies and I will be having mortal kombat nights:D
 
you should have went to Dions wired about a month back, they had a special on full HD, 24 inch phillips monitor, for R799 i have one and its amazing!!! played Band Hero on the screen as soon as i got it
 
When I bought my new Xbox and new monitor, I ended up having to buy a new set of speakers because the monitor didn't have a 3.5mm jack :D You're lucky this one does.
 
Useful to know. I'm saving up for a monitor in December and wasn't sure about the sound. I thinking about getting a 23/24" LED one. Not sure which on yet.
 
Have the BenQ (G2412HD) 24" LCD. Awesome screen. Has HDMI, VGA & DVI inputs and audio out on the screen. Great screen for the price. Run my pc and xbox on it. Just switch the input from the screen menu. Microsoft should put an audio out jack on the console. Would be so much easier!!
 
Setting up my 22" LG was a bit tricky since it only has a VGA and DVI input. I had to buy 3 things.

1. An HDMI to DVI Converter - This went from my Xbox to my Monitor.

2. Cant remember what this was called :D , but it was for the sound. (It plugs in underneath where the HDMI cable goes into the Xbox.

3. A 3.5mm adapter which plugged into the above mentioned cable. In here is where my Wireless Headset goes.

Took me a week to find the stuff, but i eventually got it working!
