Axxess vs Afrihost

Howzit guys,

So I've finally made the decision to go uncapped, but now I'm stuck between two companies Axxess (Just uncapped package) and Afrishot, which is the better company?
I must say I do like the sound of Axxess' ability to allow me two concurrent connections, but how is the company in general?
I'll be keeping my 4mb line with Crapkom/Telkom.

Another question, does the company that provides me my data become my ISP? Or is that the company that provides me my line? Lol a bit of a n00bish question :o!

Yeah, I'm going for Afrihost at the end of this month. They don't give you that BS 10 day rolling window thingie and shape you if you're in the 50% of users for data usage. Also, I've tried them w/ their 1GB free and it was really good.

So afrihost removed their BS draconian shaping then ?

ex
50gig = 80% speed
75gig = 70% speed
95gig = 60% speed

etc etc

As Far as I could tell. The relevant paragraph from the AUP:
Uncapped ADSL

We manage all of our uncapped accounts on an hour to hour basis depending on the performance of our network at that time.

We monitor our overall network usage on an hour to hour basis and if our capacity is stretched we dynamically shape and throttle certain clients' uncapped accounts to relieve congestion.

These uncapped clients will be chosen based on their historic bandwidth usage. The uncapped users who have used the most bandwidth will be throttled first if there is network congestion.

Capped ADSL accounts will not be throttled or shaped. Capped accounts will always get as much speed as their line and our network allows.

We evaluate our network capacity each hour and if capacity opens up we will unthrottle uncapped users who may have been throttled until such a time that the capacity is used up again.

It is our goal to ensure the best possible experience for both the biggest and smallest of our clients given the parameters we have and as such we reserve the right to manage Uncapped ADSL accounts as we deem necessary to ensure optimal performance across our network for all of our clients

So it will be shaped, but the speed will be unthrottled in an hour or two :/

lol, now that is TrueUncappedâ„¢. Seems that UncappedGold
from openweb is the least evil of the lot.

From my experience, don't go uncapped Afrihost, ever :P. Mweb uncapped is the best imo, and when Seacom goes they have some backup system or something. It's slow, but at least you aren't completely cut off from the internet, which also happens to Afrihost. Afrihost is excellent for capped gigs though, but not uncapped.

Reason why I dislike Afrihost uncapped is because they shape you very badly. They did me anyway. And they sent me a bloody email the other day I'm not allowed to dl torrents, and my account is pending for cancellation because of it. What does it matter to them what I dl?? Mweb shaped is quite lenient, I download about 20gb a month without being shaped out of shaped hours.

Basically in shaped hours, I can't dl torrents, only hhtp downloads, as far as I understand. Which is fine with me really.

Afraid not.

4meg line gets shaped to a 128kbps line meaning you download at about 8KBps till the end off the month. Worst part I was only on 50gig.

Atm I am on the 10 rolling day thing and it kind of work already on 80gigs and its only the 15th today and speeds are about 50%.

Mweb uncapped for heavy usage is best in my opinion. On a 512k uncapped I avg'ed about 100GB total usage per month since November. Two weeks ago my account went 1MB thanks to telkom upgrades and I'm now averaging about 10GB a day with now funny notices or warnings. Speed is around 70-90kbs throughout the day. Torrents, NZBs, Steam, whatever.

Afrihost is KAK bad once you reach more than 30gb or so. Don't know about Axxess, so I can't comment, but that 10 day rolling thing has always bugged me. And if you are in the top x% you also get shaped etc. No thanks.

I'm really thinking of going over to openweb gold from mweb.

Why? I don't understand why people don't want to go Mweb?

Because with openweb gold I could go 24.7 or use a box without big brother mweb harassing me. I won't be doing this each month, but there is the occasional month I would like to press around the 400 gig mark, were normally I pull 150-200. Otherwise I could just go netflix. Not to sure if they do a lot of foreign and or art films.

STAY AWAY FROM AXXESS UNCAPPED! *gasp*! Seriously don't waste your time you WILL get shaped to hell and back.
