Amazing things the internet gave you!

All right so this weekend i once again had nothing but praise for the internet, what i would do without it, nobody knows!

So this weekend, my friend and I were checking out the super rugby, its the usual thing we do every weekend. After the early games we were keen for abit of Forza motorsport 3. Now the last time we played this was a while back and so we were really keen to give it a bash. So....we insereted the DVD into the Xbox360, disk reading...and the bam "open tray", so we treid again but same result. On closer inspection of the DVD i noticed severe scratches on the DVD. So we tried this product called "CD Clinic" needless to say it did sweet bugger all! So now i thought this DVD is done for but then i had an idea, since the actual info on the DVD was not damaged, leaving me just the polycarbonate that was damaged, so i thought maybe if we remove a few layers it would work, Sandpaper came to mind but i shot that 1 down quickly, i then knew of shops that sell jewelry and watches had a buffering machine that took out small scratches from the glass but still it didnt seems viable. So then i went on the net, found out that you can possibly save your DVD, it suggested we try Brass-o polish and that kinda helped, we then tried toothpaste and the DVD was finally read but froze on the initial loading, we tried tooothpaste some more but alas no improovemnt. So then i knew of a VERY strong car scratch remover, fine micro granuels the take a layer of paint away, my friend also suggested we try the car buffer on the DVD also, on our first try it improoved, after the the 3rd buffering attempt the DVD worked! No problems, like brand new :D i will mention that the DVD's scratched we still visible but the surface was very smooth and the scratches far less prominent, so before you throw you DVD's or games away, think twice! :D

The primary contributing factor to our current standard of living is the fact that everyone can access almost anything online
I always joke and say that if you cannot find information about it, and at least one walk through on how to accomplish it online, then it probably doesn't exist

just recently my car was giving issues, it was refusing to idle

read on the net, found the probabal cause, took the car to the machanic, pointed out what could be the cause. Got a call shortly saying, yep you were right, then he asked "why didnt you do it yourself?" i told him i didnt have the tool to open that part :D

I think being able to use a search engine effectively should be a class at school
That really helps people to find the information they are looking for without having to ask someone smarter

very true

i think of the things we find and need solutions for 90% it will be there

almost all the time, we "google" our errors when doing Dev because chances are others have run into that annoying error too

If the Net could substitute Male/Female Interaction, it would be called Life Cman

There isnt much that i havent been able to solve after getting stuck and then googling lol. Google is your friend.

You're all talking about the concept of information asymmetry and how the internet breaks down a lot of traditional barriers in this regard. Go do some reading on it, it's truly fascinating stuff :)

As a starter link (shudder), here's the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_asymmetry

Although it refers to information asymmetry specifically in the broader economic context, it's implication in day-to-day life is particularly relevant and important too.

Follow the cited links and articles for the really interesting stuff :)
