Starcraft II: Rush your way out of silver (as Terran)

How has your original strategy worked out thus far for you so many months down the line? Still workable? Or did you find you started to lose to it quite a lot?

geez....
i dunno what league you're in, but its not the same silver i'm in... i've not been able to do one single sneaky thing!!
i must be drawing all the 7 year old koreans who are still learning to read and write or something,.... no disrespect to them, they take gaming to a different level.

the majority of players i've gone up against have observers or detect invisible really early... the only way i've found to kill them effectively is to stop them expanding, and that usually takes a whole bucket load of effort and skill...

i think i'm just too old for sc2 competitively :P

@Shamrock, nice thread. Been looking for something to discuss strategy.

So you seem to play with Terran mostly? I have been doing it on Random.

Starting to figure out the Zerg's now. I do see how the Protoss and Zerg will be somewhat vulnerable to this strategy (as in OP). Underlines why detectors are so important in all the races, but always seem to be forgotten.

Even with detection, just getting banshee's and using them with marine/marauder to open up to mid-game can be very powerful. You don't need 4, 3 would do. Harass the mineral line, pull back when you see stuff hurting you. Repair. Go in again and harass the mineral line (or other parts if static defense is up) and so forth.

Check out Day9 daily #299 (I think that's the right one) where he examines "Happy" and shows some awesome NORMAL strategies just played out perfectly.

Hey guys, sorry I hadn't checked this in a while. People have gotten a lot better at spotting and countering this. What still does work is if you block the bottom of your ramp, but that's not entirely easy. It just makes blocking a lot faster and you're no longer scoutable. Then you can do banshees without getting spotted. Even then it's more harassment and you can expand behind the attack or something like that, but with people being so much more aware of it it's not as workable.

If you do want an INSANELY easy/lame tactic that can honestly get you into plat or diamond, try this build:

I've stopped using it. I won like literally 12 games in a row and none went past ~6-7 minutes. It's just really cheesy and really effective. So effective that every time I moved out at exactly 4:30, regardless of how my timings worked out, I won.

If you check out the comments on that video the people are getting really aggro. I haven't played 1v1 at all since the new season started. I like the custom maps and TD games too much :)

Very nice strategy, good to know so I don't get killed by this :|

Yeah I can't blame ANYONE for getting agro over that strategy. Seriously it's retarded. I stopped using it because it's not only really effective but really lame. I don't do rushes, I try and get games closed by 10-15 minutes though. I'll post up some newer strategies soon. I started laddering again this weekend and went from 85th in gold to 25th on about 15 wins to 5 losses (not including my gay rushes) so I think I've improved a fair amount. My TvP and TvT is down cold, now if I could stop losing to Ling/Muta/Bling -.-

Always blows my mind how some get so aggro when a strategy is so effective that it wins games. Surely that's why it is a RTS? It's like games just be played in a certain way and you dare not try something different. Will try it just for the hell of it. It's like a probe or ling or marine rush. Only fun for the instigator :)

So for the first time in a while I tried playing last night. I have since then lost 6 games in a row, I just can't do anything. I was ranked 1 in plat when i stopped now 40th with a 700 bonus pool.

Every time I stop for a while I have to relearn everything.

Yeah I know how you feel lol, thats why I have to occasionally watch replays or play a game to not have to relearn everything :(

I still have not figured out how the rankings work. I got Platinum on 2v2 and since I achieved it, I haven't won a game there since :(

If you want we can do some practice. I'm not platinum but high gold.

Basically, every game you play contributes towards match making ratio, which scales regardless of your division. Match making ratio goes up and down until it can get you to win 50% of your games. Once it does that it balances out.

Is there a local league or do you go play in Battle.net?

I have only one "friend" from SA so far. I range between silver and gold with diamond in 2. I get hammered from time to time, but still live the experience :)

Lol, nah just battle.net. For a while there was a MyGaming channel where a bunch of locals would hang out and you could do customs but I don't think there are many people in there anymore. If you want you can add me, Shamrock 500 and we can play 2s or customs or whatever.

Speaking of which, some of the most fun I've ever had was playing Starcraft II drunk and watching the replays later. Proxy factory ftw.

@Mct & Shamrock
There is a local Starcraft channel
Starcraftza

Not everyone goes there ofc, but it's a good start :p
