Kotick not worried about Battlfield 3, says is for PC gamers

Well at least Bobby is half-right...

CoD is mass-marketed for the console, so it will still perform very well.
And by those numbers, I can't help but think it will perform better than BF3 anyway, regardless of which is better.

BF3 will be the superior title, but with only PC as platform, CoD will retain it's sales grip.
/sad panda.

Such compliments to the competitors from Bobby, I didn't think he was capable.

Seriously though, he's trying to spin the "designed for PC" as a negative, when its not. It will result in a better game for everyone.

I might be able to take him more seriously if he knew anything about search trends - but apart from a recent spike, it's not like MW3 is completely pounding BF3 in the search engines. As a matter of fact, BF3's been leading the race for the majority of the year so far

It will be interesting to see how these trends develop over the coming months.

That BF3 spike in April was due to the cool videos they released and the social networing ad campaign that accompanied it.

Beginning in May were the MW3 'leaks' building up to the official announcement just before E3. Interesting how MW3 has tapered downwards rapidly since then, perhaps because CoD Elite stole the limelight for a bit. We must revisit this in a month or so and drop a logic bomb on uncle Bobby.

Well ... it's also true that info about BF3 started circulating a lot earlier - which would account for it's lead - of course, the fact that MW3 info was "leaked", and with Activision "scrambling" to fill in the gaps was probably a big factor in the spike they had in May. So that was a clever move on their part.

I think after E3 we'll probably get a much better picture - Kotick is probably right in saying the MW3 will outsell BF3 by miles - because obviously you have to factor in consoles as well, but I do think he's being overconfident to a degree - a lot of people seemed unhappy about Black Ops.

So we'll see.

Well the result of me googling Battlefield 3, is that I ended up on the Battlefield website and I signed up for the Battlefield 3 Newsletter.

I just lol'ed at the statement that the PC market is "very small". I mean, yeah sure, it's smaller than the console market for sure, but ...

Godammit, how can you have a clueless git like him in charge of a leading gaming company. I know what he's going to do - let's assume that BF3 kills MW3 on PC. He's just going to keep saying that BF3 lost because MW3 sold more units in the end. This will be despite the fact that MW3 will have lost ground.

Hey wait - you know who he will sound like, exactly? The ANC :D

Edit: I wanted to add this in for a little bit of extra interest.

I find it fascinating that it's only really in English searches that MW3 has a clear lead, and not by much either - whereas BF3 completely pwns MW3 in Danish, Swedish and German.

Looks like the European continental market is likely to make a slightly more considered decision in the end.

Well there you have it from the doos himself

And the likes of Robert Bowling say to us "PC gets special attention" is now clearly a lie, why?

because your publishing CEO jus said, PC isnt important, we care about console's because thats where the bulk of our sales come.

I do warn even console guys out there, we already got snippet of it in BO, dont forget the PS3 had loads of bugs too, it was kinda just the XBOX that go away with it

So eventually they are probably only going to cater for XBOX and stop giving a crap about the PS3 too

so there you have it, what we all new already, COD is longer worried about selling on PC really

BF3 strut your stuff!

Activision don't need to focus on PC for MW3 , why? They will release Diablo 3 . Guess which games are dominating the PC Sales charts?

Starcraft 2 [and all its various versions]
Word of Warcraft [even the WOTLK expansion is in the top 10 selling PC Games of 2010]

So considering that Blizzard is part of Activision, there's zero reason for Kotik to feel a need to compete on PC Level with MW3, more people is going to play Diablo 3 than BF3, despite it being different genres, so i'd say they are sorted on both platforms..

The best EA can do is to bring out something to compete with Diablo on the console instead, i bet it is probably something like this : www.ea.com/reckoning

Interesting. Perhaps is has something to do with Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer = American developers; DICE = Swedish?

I didn't actually know DICE were Swedish at all, and it might make a difference, but I won't put any huge bet on that - considering that EA and Battlefield in the end are world-wide franchises, but there's a huge spike in regional traffic from Sweden as well.

But they lead in Russia, Portugal and the Netherlands as well - even though by smaller margins. I don't think Activision's lead is quite as secure as they like to make out. If BF3 ends up trumping MW3 in PC sales, its a victory no matter which way you look at it.

something for you guys!

JOHN RICCITIELLO, CEO ELECTRONIC ARTS

“It’s the beginning of the war and (Kotick) recognizes they’re going to be threatend. We’re going to have a clash of the titans this fall. The very fact that he’s trying to cast doubt on our game is a perfect example of how we got his goat. In terms of where this goes, we think our PS3 game is better than their Xbox game and our PC game is better than their PC game. If that’s all he’s got to say, it’s obviously going to evaporate as we launch all three. If you went to our press conference, you saw the PS3 footage and the Xbox footage. If Bobby think’s that PC footage, he’s in real trouble.”

Looks like someone has not been following the BF3 news at all. :D

From the very first interview video, that's now if you have never knew before that, it's pretty clear that their Swedish :P

That's because I watch all the pretty trailers - I'm not interested in interviews :p

Seriously though - I just keep in touch with news and developments, and where a company is based really has very little bearing on the final game for me.

Also, I have the same kind of horrified fascination in anything that Kotick says - again, just like the ANC.

And yeah ... keeping in mind that BF3 isn't a PC exclusive - something Bobby seems a little misinformed (or utterly retarded) about

Yup! I read all your posts in this thread and I have to say that I agree 100%. This guy is in a world of his own.

Thing about Kotick - he's brilliant when it comes to marketing, running a company and making money - that's what Activision hired him for - but he knows sod all about actual gaming - y'know, just based on the drivel he drops from time to time. I know he claimed once to play games, but I call BS on that.

He probably played Solitaire once, to try and figure out what he could do to make money from it.
