Crytek announces Crysis 2 for consoles and PC
Monday, 01 Jun 2009 11:32

Today EA and Crytek announced Crysis 2 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The next instalment of Crysis will be the first game built on Crytek's CryENGINE 3 and will be released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. EA will publish the game.

"The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio," said Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, who had hinted at a multiplatform console game in April.

"This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event."

Following the announcement of CryENGINE 3 for consoles, it was inevitable that Crytek's next game would be for multiple platforms, but it wasn't obvious that it would be Crysis 2.

"Nothing speaks more to the success of the EA Partners program than when a studio the calibre of Crytek continues to work with us," said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners.

"Crytek is already one of the elite PC development studios in the world and we are excited to have the opportunity to partner with them in bringing their award-winning technology and gameplay to more platforms and a wider audience with Crysis 2."

My PC is still recovering from the 1st one raping it's performance requirements... :(

Mine i managed to put up to Top specs at the time without having put a dent in my PC performance :p

Same here, I managed 45FPS average using the benchmark with all on high except physics, shadows and sound @ 1280x1024.

I dont have crysis or warhead anymore to test on the new rig...........

I had an 8800GTS 640 Sli system when I got Crysis, so my rig didn't break to much of a sweat. My Cpu was sucky though, had an overclocked AMD 4800X2

Im still playing Crysis 1, My rig just recently managed any sort of playable version. Now running it at an average 23fps. I think the cryengine 3 is just a tuned version of no 2. So hopefully it wont be raping system specs so badly this time round.

yay, can't wait...

...but i guess i must give warhead a try first, but i enjoyed the 1st one a lot.

ps: started playing crysis on my e2140.

pss: how do know how many fps a game is running at?

Get a program like fraps and it will display it for u.

Warhead runs great on my PC on Gamer settings. Not so sure about this sequel though, being co-developed on consoles worries me. Simplified for the masses FTL.

Well look at it this way,Voicy: if the engine has been built so that HexBox and PS3 can handle it, your PC should be on safer ground this time round. :D

Well I was playing Crysis on a single core Athlon 3000+ with a Geforce 7600GS when I first got it. If you want to play maxed then yes you will need some epeen under the hood :D.

Crysis 2 is going to be soooo watered down on the consoles. A console simply cannot beat a high end PC. It's going to be like how far cry came out for the 360. Compared to the PC version it was really k@k.
